1 picture of the connector you should be using on the R56. you've used the wrong connector, this one is ABOVE the steering column, not plugged into the back of the plastic section behind the steering wheel.

i cant attach the PDF installation documents, because the forum has a ridiculously low file size limit.

Yea - finally! I got my Nuvi hooked up with power. Thanks rec for the posts with the pictures. It was a real bugger getting the correct plug free. After that it all made sense and works great.

Is there a way to get these Garmin Nuvi 300 series sat nav units to go straight the map view by default (I'm using a Nuvi 300)? It's great that it automatically switches on an off when the ignition is swtiched on and off, but it would be even better if it went straight to the map view, instead of asking what I would like to do. Most of the time, I know where I am going, but would like to be warned of speed cameras/school zones etc, but I have to select 'View Map' every time before I set off. Maybe rec knows of some secret way of doing this (I'm sure the software developers will know a way).

I'd also like to turn off the warning about operating it whilst driving. I'm sure there is some legal reason why it displays this message, but if there is some 'back door' way of disabling this too, that would be perfect. To me, it would be perfect if it just switched on and went straight to the map view without any user interaction.

So if anybody out there knows how to do this, please let me know.

Thanks J1JPE, using the links to the software, I have finally managed to create a PW/B Mini MCS with black bonnet stripes for use on my Nuvi. I think it looks pretty good, if I don't mind saying so myself

I have only done the 3D view, as I don't use the 2D view, but if anyone wants the .srf file, then just let me know.

- please can you attach / post link to your file here so we can return the favour to BBCooper on NAM; he's been working on a PW and has asked me for a copy of your file

Would love to have a Sparkling Silver with black roof & black stripes but am making do the the NAM PS/B file for now ...

Any chance you can add the black stripes to the NAM Silver file or make a SS/B with stripes Cooper (non S)?

Just brought a Nuvi 310T and so far really pleased with the unit. The bluetooth handsfree works a charm with the iPhone too.

Does anyone know if the Mini specific car mount which has been shown earlier in the thread would also fit a R50 (03 reg) cooper? All pics show it mounted in a R56 next to the rev counter.

Thanks

Drew

rec, can you e.mail me this correct PDF instruction. I have installed this as per the instructions supplied with bracket, but there's something wrong.

The unit powers up when i unlock the car?. and then doesn't power down when i lock the car. If i switch the unit off manually, then the unit goes to 'charge' mode. Also, testing the voltage supplied to the unit, it measures 5.2v, though unit should run on 10-30v range.

Please help

Hey Japper

The unit should come on with the door unlock, and it should go off after a minute or so once the doors are locked.

Sounds as though you may have it plugged into the wrong cplug. I made this mistake, as the instructions that come with the unit are not for the R56.

If you get no luck from rec, PM me your email address and I can send you them.

Hey jords,

Yeah it powers up with the 'door unlock' though i thought that was wrong. Initially it powered down ok too, but didn't last night for some reason.

It's definately the right plug ( as pictured above ) and the pins as per the OEM instructions......i assume these are the right pins

When it did power down ok, it still says ( in faint writing ) going to 'charge mode'. Does this mean it will drain the battery if left for a while?.

On a seperate note, the unit is fantastic. The bluetooth is great. Only annoying thing is that this unit thinks there's a mobile speed camera EVEYWHERE

You have a different model to mine as mine doesn't say 'going to charge mode', but it must do, as I have never manually charged it, and it has been left for a few days without being used.

I think the unit's must go into a kind of sleep mode, because when it automatically powers back up when the doors are opened, it already locked onto the satellites.

It sounds like all is ok if it comes on when the door is unlocked/opened and goes into charge mode (without the screen being on) after the door is locked/closed. Best thing is to lock your car and go and have a cuppa. The go and check and it should have powered down.

Thanks jords.

Seems kinda strange that it takes so long to power down though, don't you think!. Not good if you're leaving it on 'display' anywhere

Does the dealer fitted Garmin nav involve him recking your dashboard?! And is it easy to take the mount of the car when you've done? Basically is it discreet? Had a look through all this thread but no one seems to have had it fitted by a mini dealer and posted pics! Would be good as I'm thinking of going for this when I pick up my dooper in a few weeks time.

They are simple to fit. No need to take apart the dash. The mount simply uses the existing screws on the back of the rev counter. Can easily be removed if you need to. If you wire it into the car for constant power, then fitting and removal will take a bit longer, but not much. It took me less than an hour to fit it and wire it in. There are pictures on here of it fitted.
