Memory return seats

On my 02 Cooper S the seats had a memory return function. By this I mean if you had the seat set up how you like it, if you press the button on the side to allow access to the back, when you slide the seat back it would return to the position it was in before you pressed the button.

My question is, does the R56 have the same functionality? The few times I've tried it it hasn't worked, and the seat has just stopped in the first position.

Slide the seat all the way back to the position that you have it, then tilt it back to lock it! ive had a Cooper and an MCS with this problem but thats all i had to do. Not an R56 tho.

yes it has the same functionnality
the thing is that you have to move the seat to its original position and then fold the backrest to lock the seat:

MINI Manual Page 30:
1. Do not fold the backrest up until the seat is in its previous position. Otherwise, the seat will engage in its current position. In this case, adjust the longitudinal position manually
2. Fold the backrest back up to lock the seat.

thats right, theres a little bit on the seat runners that needs to be slid forwards, then move the seat right back and it will clip under the seat. this is what stops the seat from moving further. I had the same prob with mine, but this fixed it
