Just about to order a new MCS and wondered if you can used the MFSW to control and iPOD connected to the USB? Was going to order the IPOD interface but am now thinking I might order the Bluetooth & USB adapter option as it comes with the armrest and MFCW (2 options that I was ordering anyway).
Any advice on the USB adapter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

As I understand it (from reading previous posts), the BMW USB option will only have limited functionality with an Ipod as it can access the ipod only as a 'removeable disc' to play music tracks stored on it like a hard drive.

However, as Apple has DRM protection on tracks bought from Itunes it will not be possible to play these tracks as the USB connection will not actually control the Ipod. I've read somewhere that there may be an additional lead available that will allow the Apple music to be decoded by the head unit.

Anyway we've decided to bite the bullet and give it a try on our Clubman. Should be able to tell you more in November!

Chris

I have the USB on my Dooper and it works a treat with my ipod . Keep forgetting to check whether downloaded tracks play, but I am not too bothered as 99% of my tunes are burned from CD. On the radio display you can select by track, album or artist - it works fine for me. The main difference from an ipod screen is that the Mini display only gives 2 or 3 lines of information. I am very pleased I selected it - the Bluetooth is great too

If you buy the specific ipod lead from MINI you will get all the DRM protected tracks too.. It is not cheap though at £40.
It does work and sound good though

I think you will have to get the dealer fit ipod interface to get MFSW control once the car is built. Not sure what else aftermarket is out there for the R56 currently

Hello and thanks for the quick reply guys.
Well ,when i ordered the car no one told me as an option to fit the ipod interface. And they didnt tell me that the usb input comes with the bluetooth option (which i didnt want to fit ).If they told me that in the beginning im sure i would ordered that. Anyways since im in this kind of situation if i install the ipod kit will i be able to use the sw buttons ? Since i have the standard cd (i believe its a wave) if i install the ipod kit will the names of the songs be displayed on the screen?

Oh and washy where did u find that cable u have posted? a site ?
Thanks again guys

I have the USB/Bluetooth option on my R56 MCS and I have to say it is such a good option, the bluetooth is really useful as I am on the road quite a lot and the ipod connection (with the BMW connection cable) is great as I get to control the tracks through the stereo/MFSW, so if you can afford it go for it!!

No mikey its not a cabriolet.
I have the panoramic sunroof option but no cabriolet. I just used that image because there was the only black with white roof but no stripes icon(at least that seemed more accurate). I have a mini cooper s

For those that have the usb/bluetooth already, where is the usb plug located? Do you think there is anyway to ditch the armrest and keep the bluetooth and usb? A picture of the USB location and what you see on your ipod and headunit when connected, particularly if you have the nav.

.

The standard wave radio has only a 1 line display in the huge odometer, the boost has 2.
With the wave option, song titles and artist names do not show up on this display when playing a
CD or if you have the iPod option when you are listening to the iPod.

Unfortunately there is no way to hook up your iPod other than through the aux connection.
(This was the only reason I speced the boost, which btw may I say for the nth time sucks sucks sucks)
