Radio Wave and iPod interface

Dear Forum,

We received our Mini Cooper S early March, having specified Harman/Kardon, iPod interface and a Multi-Function Steering Wheel to control the iPod. As we picked up the car we learnt that the iPod interface was not included and we were told this would be retrofitted when the kit was available.

At the time of ordering the car we made it clear that we wanted the biggest stereo system, but R56 specs were apparently not clear in Autumn 06 (at least not at our dealer), so we did not really have a list to pick from. Turns out we got the Radio Wave, and this week (5 months on!) we learnt that there is no way to install an iPod interface on Radio Wave. Also, according to the dealer, it is not possible to upgrade to Radio Boost.

We don't want any 3rd party retrofitted solutions and feel utterly dissappointed with the situation. For us, the only satisfactory solution is to get a new car, but this may be a though call.

Any confirmation of the above limitations and advice on how to deal with the situation would be highly appreciated.

How did your dealer misinterpret "biggest stereo" and end up giving you "worst stereo" ????

You need to make a complaint to your dealer in writing, stating that if they cannot rectify the problem then you want a new car. However I suspect that at some stage you must have approved the specification sheet created by the dealer. If this is the case then I suspect you will be unsucessful in any claim against the dealer.

Hi Arve as purple dave said difficult if you have approved spec sheet have you anything in writing saying they would retro fit ipod gear if so include this with letter to dealer priciple stating why you are not pleased and what you would like to be done , but at this late stage may be difficult but good luck with this, as not good getting what you asked for.

The spec sheet included iPod interface and something about MP3 compatible CD player (don't have the spec sheet in front of me), and the Radio Wave is not MP3 compatible. So the car was not delivered according to spec sheet, but when I picked the car up I was told this would be fitted later. Only now, 5 months later, the dealer has decided that it is not possible after all.

Take your spec sheet to the Dealer principle (as Derek H suggested) and insist on a replacement vehicle. If the stereo cannot be changed and the ipod cannot be fitted then the only alternative is a replacement vehicle. Good luck.

Cheers for that, Purple Dave and DerekH. I have told the seller that this is the only satsifactory solution. He will talk to his boss when he is back from holiday on Monday. Fingers crossed!
