I wouldn't be surprised if the Japan MINI OEM Nav is also a DIN unit. In the R50/R53, the Japanese Nav was not built-in but a folding screen DIN headunit.

Miniac that looks great knew there would be somebody that would beat mini's game, but japan is a long way to go for install
