Offline | Yes. In Navigation (the screen where you can enter a new destination or select the On-Screen Info), go down to the bottom, then across to "Perspective". Rob |

Offline | I beg leave to differ - I have the new satnav on my R56 and I get a 3d view with icons etc. In what way is that different from the TomTom-style view? I'll post a picture tomorrow, but rest assured, if you want a 3D view, the R56 sat-nav has it. |

Offline | Ratbag98 is the perspective mode available on the R56 'out of the box'? On my R53 MK4 I had to enable it through the hidden set menu sequence before the option was added as an extra item on the menu. |

Offline | This is a standard Sept 07 build R56 SatNav. The effect is more striking in towns with many streets, but I hope you get the idea. There's a little icon in the top corner of my images, one indicates a North-oriented map (the arrow with an N) and the other represents a birds-eye view (the image of a car from above and behind). By moving the joystick to the right and selecting this icon you can change the view whilst looking at the map, alternatively you can choose the appropriate view from the menu, as shown in the middle picture. I've not included a picture of the third possible view, which is a car direction-oriented plan view. Here's the pictorial evidence: |

Offline | Ratbag - can you zoom in and view the map in birds eye view so that the view is more close up - i.e. only the near roads are visible and you can see their names (like a normal Garmin / Tom Tom view)? Thanks for the pics btw ![]() |

Offline | Press the knob while a map is displayed. Scroll down to Map positioning and select it. You should have 3 choices available: Pointing North, Travel direction, and Perspective If the Perspective selection isn't shown, you first need to enable it in the service menu. Bring up the main MENU screen and open the Set menu. Then press and hold the MENU button for about 10 seconds. The service menu should appear. Scroll all the way down to the second page, where there should be a Perspective setting, and turn it on. Then go back to a map and try to select Perspective view again. All of this is assuming that your Nav unit is installed with at least V27 level firmware (released in early 2006). Personally, I think perspective view looks good but I don't use it because it doesn't display street names. |

Offline | Milgauss, You can zoom in and out (125 yds is the closest, x miles is the furthest - above a certain point it drops back to plan view). You can't see the street names, only road numbers, if memory serves - I'm normally just relying on the arrows/voice when I get to the street level, unless I'm parked. Glad I could help, Rob. |

Offline | My Tom-Tom has been retired - the Mini one is good enough for me. I never used the r53, so I can't really comment, but I suspect in real-world day-to-day use that you'll actually be quite happy with the new Nav. The only exceptions would be if you rely on complex itinerary planning (haven't found a way to set up multiple way-points, although obviously you could just add all the stops to your address book with a common prefix, then just select the next one on the list) or if you need to avoid areas other than traffic problems. The TMC routing makes a remarkably good stab at avoiding hot-spots (either automatically or on-demand). Also, as I said, the effect looks much more impressive in a more urban environment. Rob |

Offline | Somewhat embarrassingly, I don't know! When I have a route planned and guidance has started, I get an arrow with the map. If no route is active, I get the longitude and latitude of my current position. In the same menu as the perspective option there is also an "arrow" and "position" option, but they show the information full-screen. Perhaps using these options once causes split-screen to be activated? I don't know how to get rid of the arrows either. I had a quick look in the stalk-controlled settings and the settings menu on the satnav screen itself - nothing obvious. You've piqued my curiosity, so I'll do some more digging. There's quite good satnav info on the American board (MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI has good general stuff that you might not have seen, MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Navigation & Audio is a more specialised forum) This thread (http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-i...t-sat-nav.html) suggests that older versions didn't have it, but I'm sure you would have got the latest firmware. And here's another thread suggesting a link between versions and the split-screen: http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-f...s-sat-nav.html |
