If only it was that easy......

The R56 (the MINI youve ordered) comes with the Aux in socket anyway, so you could just buy a cable to plag you Ipod into that, it wont charge it I dont think and you have to scroll the songs manually rather that with the multi funtion steering wheel and/or nav joystick - not that expensive.

OR MINI do another option, the one I want to go for and also the one that is confusing me most!!

This one being an Ipod interface fitted into the top storage compartment on the dash..priced at £195 in the brochure and then whatever the dealer charges to fit and how many hours they reckon it takes (for some very strange reason this seems to vary across the board )

I think what ive said is right?!

Good luck!

So do u plug the ipod lead in under the electric window switches , well at the back of them?
and does the multi function steering wheel then enable you to scroll through tracks on your Ipod..

Not if you only use the Aux in socket.

To use the MFSW and/or joystick you need the Ipod interface fitted.

Thats how I understand it and that is what ive now ordered

Ok thanks. that saves me £175 then, wont bother with the multi function steering wheel, as i hardly used it on my other car. Heated seats instead

If you look in the MINI handbook it'll tell you what to ask for I think it's known as a 3.5mm aux cable.

I got one from HMV for about £10 for our Clubman. As mentioned it doesn't charge your ipod but you can get a car charger off eBay for about a fiver

You'll have trouble looking in the handbook then

Right I've got ours in front of me and it calls it a jack plug 3.5mm, they knew what I meant when I asked at HMV

Don't forget that the socket is underneath the unit, so it is easy to reach, but difficult to see...

Evening all, I've just ordered a Dooper too and quizzed the dealer about the Ipod interface. They quoted £400 By comparison VW will fit one to the wifes car for £155...? The dealer actualy told me not to bother and get a £5 aux input lead instead!

Dension reckon the Gateway 500 is the one to go for but thats £280 on its own....

Time to start beating up the dealer and get the labour down a bit...

Guys. STOP using the headphone jack to the aux. It sounds terrible. You should take the audio line level signal from the bottom of the iPod at the adapter. This is what the full blown iPod adapter does and it sounds soooo much better.

It looks like this: Amazon.com: Ipod Dock Conn To 3.5MM Cable:...Amazon.com: Ipod Dock Conn To 3.5MM Cable:...

I have an Xtreme Microflex Car Charger for my nano.

XtremeMac Microflex Car Charger for iPod Nano

The device works well as it charges the nano, allows me to position the nano within easy reach for track selection and outputs line output which I have connected to the 3.5 mm socket.

However, when I first removed the Microflex from the 12V socket, it took a fair amount of force and then fell to bits. I mangled the 12 V in my last MINI by using a freebie no-make phone charger so was worried I had caused the same problem but luckily the socket was undamaged. I have modifed the Microflex to make it easier to push in and out by trimming the rubber washer, removing the metal washer and using superglue to stop it falling to bits again. So far so good but not an ideal recommendation!!!!

I would happily pay an extra £100 for a proper iPod connector socket if I could use it with my MFSW. I hate the idea of my factory put together MINI being pulled to bits by the dealer at enormous expense just to get to the back of the radio.

SWMBO wants us to change to a Clubman now so I now have to go through the options again. I think the standard speakers are dreadful so will go for the Hi Fi option next time around. Does anyone know if the DAB radio option is better quality than the standard Boost device (apart from eliminating crackles on Five Live)?

Can we start a campaign for MINI to offer us the same cost as the factory fitted iPod option as the 1-series (£205)?

I originally used the aux socket but was really disappointed with the quality so had the OEM line fitted with ipod in glovebox. Sorry, can't remember exact cost but I think it was about £230. In my opinion it's worth finding a direct connection option that doesn't include the aux socket.
