mini clubman standard radio

Hi

I have a mini clubman on order, it's late so i have run out of stuff to read about it.

The one thing there seems to be little about is the radio, I have had the hifi option but do not really know what I am getting. I have also gone for chili pack if that makes any differance.

The hifi option is a slightly better bad sounding system ;

I have the hifi upgrade and am very happy with it, not sure of the stats.

No doubt it is not as good as our sponsor's upgrade, but it is cheaper!

I compared both MINI systems before ordering a Clubman with HI-Fi as I thought the extra was worth it for speech and classical music. But I don't think any car system can produce real hi-fi to compare with a proper home system simply because the sound environment is too small - although I don't doubt that custom-built systems are better, if not in value terms.

(In the same way that factory kitchens don't compare very well with custom-built ones.)

LOL - having just bought a kitchen but installed myself I know what you mean - I was robbed

On the Hi fi front - You get 10 speakers - but, the biggest speakers are in the rear & it doesnt send any bass to them

@Rollover - I spent a long time reading up on the radio systems and I understand it as follows:

The standard kit is unimpressive
The HIFI makes it better and for an untrained ear (that doesn't need things on full blast) it does the job
Mikey is the person to speak to if you want to get really good sound. I am not sure, but I understand it will be slightly more than the HIFI option, but it will be much, much better value for money (that seems to be a bit of a complaint for the people with HIFI option). The way I understand it is that he upgrades from the basic system, so you do not want HIFI and then go to Mikey (you might want to chek with him first...)

HIFI has 10 speakers and a serious sounding amp (plenty of watts).

I must also point out that I have little knowledge of the whole thing, I haven't compared any systems and Mikey does not sponsor me. This is just a summary of what I understand after reading the various posts. I hope it helps.

Yer gets what yer pay for!

I didn't pay for the Hi-fi option, so I have to 'put up' with the standard fare.

That said, my listening habits are Radio 5 Live and theJazz on the way to and from work, so I have no requirement for an up market system, an am perfectly satisfied with what I have - especially as I am spoilt with £6k worth of Hi-fi in my lounge - nothing else would come near.

Well I did not tick the "hi-fi" option...and put the money towards the Mikey upgrade. I also got a parrot blue tooth kit put in at the same time, the total cost of phone kit + Mikey upgrade was less than getting phone kit and Bluetooth option from mini at the time (assuming I did my maths correctly at the time)....

...so in a way the Mikey kit is cheaper.. and does sound great !

To late for Miky option

I got my reg today and it is coming this week yiippeeee, so I will hear for my self.

I may have miss led you in to thinking I was asking for advise on whether to get the hi fi upgrade or not; I have already orded it.

Lucky for you Miky you could have been on the wrong end of kitchen fitters bill.

So having paid good money for my hifi upgrade can someone just make up a bit of good stuff just to humor me. eg 10 speeker = 5 for each ear thats got to be good.

ps anyone really want advice on kitchen just pm me, I hate the job so I will not take any money of you just free advice.

I have specced the HIFI option myself (too much hassle otherwise)

You will get the cute little speakers in the A-pillars (which apparently raises the sound stage...), so that's not just five for each ear, but also one for each eye when driving

Much more subtle than that - Primare Amp & CD, Gradient loudspeakers.

I saw that, only after playing spot the differance on the build you own mini program for about two hours. Just one or two sleeps to go. I better just sit in it for a few day( without starting it up) ontill I am use to all eye and ear candy.
