Ambient Lighting on Unlock? Help!

Hi!

Just got my new R56 MCS- chuffed to bits..... anyway, it had to go back to the dealer for a few bits and the manager lent me his MCS. When I unlocked his car (at night), all the ambient lighting, as well as the dash lighting (speedo, etc) illuminated at the same time as it unlocked.

Any ideas how I can set this up in my car? At the moment, when I remote unlock, just the standard interior light comes on. I have tried leaving the headlights on, but this didn't seem to make any difference to the interior on 'unlock'.

Any ideas would be welcome!

Cheers,

Si

Not to my knowledge- There is an audible 'beep' if you leave the side lights on- and I definitely didn't hear this when I left the car during the day. I would love to find out how this is done (probably REALLY simple ) as it looked great at night.

Cheers,

si

Pretty sure mine does that...and not sure how I have got it to do that...

I have auto lights...did the car have that ?

There is also a setting that can be adjusted for how long the lights, and side lights stay on after the car is unlocked...I know mine stays on 30 seconds so again might be down to that.

Same for me. Auto lights too.

I assumed they all do it. I'm sure the MC R56 courtesy car I had did it too

yeah, I'm sure it's got autolights- it's an MCS with the chilli pack, so I can't see why it doesn't??

I am new to all this but the dealer I went to the other day explained that auto lights where either an option on their own or part of the visibility pack - not necessarily part of the chilli pack...

mine does it, and I don't have auto lights. if you leave your headlights on when you turn off the car, they are automatically turned off when you take the fob out of the ignition and lock it - when you unlock the car again, the interior lights will come on, along with the side lights

Yep, just spoke to my dealer - who are Keston-based - he says it may be a software (?) issue. Apparently the later R56 MCS come with a slightly different keyfob (mine is a Jan 07)- he recommended leaving the lights on, but this just doesn't work on my earlier version MCS. I also noticed that the passenger air-bag is 'Off', even tho the key switch for the bag says 'On'. Could both be related to an electrical problem I guess? I've only had my car for a few weeks, but the R56's don't seem (initially) to be as well-built as my 1st series MCS.

Unhappy

ok- just got my MCS back from the maindealer and they have been NO help!

Does anyone know how to set the interior 'mood' lighting and cluster lights to come on when the car is unlocked by the remote? I have left the full headlight switch to 'on' but still no joy. I think the bloke at mini thought I was going mad until I showed him that their demo car did it and mine didn't! Could it be in the KEY/SET INFO menu? Any BMW engineers let me know so i can stop boring my fiancé!

My car is a Jan 07 build- does anyone have an earlier model MCS on which this works?? If not, I starting to wonder if the car needs a software update.......... help!!!

you gotta do this
set the lights on from obc, both of them (daytime running lights and auto lights)
than turn the headlight switch below 0 (which is auto mode)
lock your car and wait 30 secs.
unlock and voila!

Leave your lights fully on when you get out the car.

hi, i have tried this in my wifes mini it was built in dec 07, it works ok for me
all you need do is leave your headlights on full when you get out and lock the mini,
they automatically turn off when you lock so dont worry about them staying on...

Mmmm this one has always confused me as my lights didnt come on and a friends of mine's lights to come on..... I thought this was because mine was an 06 build and his an 07......

However, upon fetching my car back from MINI last week the ambient lights now come on...... so obviously it must be a programmable thing. But now my indicators dont do the 'overtaking, 3 flashes' thing, so if anyone knows how to reprogramme that I would be grateful.
