Is the alacantara steering wheel for the R56 any good?

I don't really like the feel of the standard leather on my Cooper D steering wheel so was looking to change it. I've seen the alacantara steering wheel in the accessories brochure but I wondered if it would take well to the 30,000 miles\year I'm doing... I.E. - would it need combing all the time etc?

Also, is it any smaller than the standard one... would like something a little smaller.

If you mean the JCW steering wheel.... then I cant help you on the alcantara but I do have the full leather one. I love mine, its a bit smaller I think and is a bit 'chunkier', but tbh it alters the feel of the drive IMO, a bit more sporty.

I have heard reports of the alcantara one going a bit shiny after a while....which is why i picked the other one. Personal preference, but in either case I would go for it.

Not sure on the Mini version but in the 911 GT3 the alcantara does go a bit shiny in places with wear after 10,000-15,000 miles. But it depends how careful you are with it,

On a side note does anyone know if you can get the MFSW with the alcantara cover? The pics of the JCW one is a stock steering wheel.

You mean Carbon Fibre Covers?

If so no, if you have MFSW you can only have the Carbon Fibre Inserts on the bottom spoke (the one with the JCW logo).

DHA - you can transfer your MFSW switches to the alcantara wheel, as the JCW doesn't come with any replacements. The CF covers do not have the holes for MFSW, as mentioned before, and are sold separately.

I love my JCW alcantara wheel. It has sucha great feel! I bought a suede cleaning kit to keep it looking nice...

FortyTwo, thanks very much for the reply. I am not too worried about the CF covers it is the rim that I was more interested in. Cheers

And if you drive with clean hands and occasionally clean the steering wheel too, then you get no shineyness

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

Thinking that the R56 MCS will need one rather soon, as I can't used to the standard wheel on that now when I'm not in the GP

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?
