United-Kingdom NEW-Basic Bluetooth with USB

Just been poking around messing with yet another spec for a mini and noticed today they have a no cost option for Basic Bluetooth with USB (see attached).

Does anyone know about this and what it does being "Basic Bluetooth" I presume the USB would allow you to put a data stick with MP3 or an iPod dock cable in and play tunes while also charging your iPod. Does this do away with the need for the iPod connection kit?

Need more info guys if you have it!

We'll have to hope that some of the Mini staff like Scrogg that come on here see this thread and can give a little more info into this what I am presuming is a new option.

As far as I am aware Scrogg doesn't work for MINI, but Dave (bubblegoose), Ali (Ali@Woodys) and Chris (Chris at Woodmans BMW) do, just to name a few.

I think it could be just Bluetooth with a USB Port with no MFSW/Cruise Control/Armrest. (just my idea)

If I understand what my MA told me correctly and you are talking about what I think you are (some options have different names/prices in the states). Then the difference between the "full" bluetooth and the "basic" is that the "Full" comes with a charger/cradle for your cell phone that goes in the center armrest and a connection to an external antenna.

AFAIK, the bluetooth/iPod functionality should be the same between the two. I should really get around to setting up the bluetooth in my car to talk to my cell phone, I'll let you know how that works/interfaces with the MFSW controls.

From what I understand the full, built in Sat Nav has additional functionality with regards to the iPod integration and possibly the cell phone as well.

It seems there is now a charge for the Basic Bluetooth & USB, £295 (see attached).

I spec'd what was at the time of ordering the only bluetooth option for my new Cooper S. Since reading this thread I have emailed my dealer and below is the official release information from Mini which he forwarded to me - I hope it helps clarify (it did for me and I'm sticking to the full option):

The following MINI Hatch and Clubman Product changes will take place from the 1st April:

Effective from 1st April 2008:

Release of option 6ND Basic Bluetooth with USB Audio

To further complement MINI's range of innovative functions, we now offer option 6ND 'Basic Bluetooth with USB Audio'. Priced at £295 across both the Hatch and Clubman range.

This option is a more cost effective way of having the Bluetooth and USB function in a MINI.

Basic Bluetooth allows you to use your mobile phone through the car's audio system as a hands-free telephone function. Please be aware the following elements vs. Full Bluetooth Telephone Preparation are not included in this option:
  • 249 Multifunction for steering wheel
  • 255 Sports leather steering wheel
  • 473 Centre armrest with Bluetooth cradle
  • No charging function
  • No aerial amp
Option 6NE: Change of name to 'Full Bluetooth Telephone Preparation with USB Audio'

I guessed they would remove MFSW etc (see post above)

And they have put the price of full bluetooth up too

Just noticed that the wifes 118D which has the USB option has a bluetooth box in the boot. Doesn't work though... I bet its the same set up as the basic bluetooth but the bluetooth has been knobbled as we didn't pay £500 for the privelege....I wonder if it could be recoded...
