| John Cooper Works Cooper | Hi Mikey, Just a quick question. When i had my car apart doing the stereo upgrades i noticed that when the stereo and spedo were out that it looked prety standard behind in size compared to a aftermarket stereo. What i was thinking if i was to buy a new centre console around the current stereo etc and modift it with a stereo holder and cut it all cut to make a aftermarket stereo fit would you be able to make a loom up to connect it to the standard loom. Or isnt it this simple? Would the spedo still work if i was to do this? i know the stereo buttons wouldnt work on the spedo but would the trip computer funtions work etc? Has any one already done this in there car? I have currently got a amps fitted in the boot to run the front speakers and upgraded rear speakers and a amp running the sub in the boot. But i wont to be able to change the finer setting on the sound and to make the car look different by adding a new head unit? What size speakers do i need for front door speakers to upgrade them? Hope you can help mikey or anyone. Cheers Rob ![]() |

Online | We have tried removing the stereo - the whole display on the speedo goes off We are working towards a solution though that keeps the standard stereo & lets you fit an aftermarket stereo below it - just taking some time due to dealing with a company on the other side of the world ![]() |

Offline | I was wondering about this too... I had a tiny thought, so bear with me, I don'd know that this would even come close to working but it's along the lines of what I would like to see.... It might be possible to get the speedo & rev counter pods to place on the steering column. I believe this is pretty simple to get working, someone said this does not even need reprogramming in the ECU...how true that is, I dont know. IF that all worked you could then ditch the central speedo and have oogles of room for a head unit/sat nav screen. It might be possible to put a slot loading multi-changer where the single slot is now. Of course, you loose the speedo when you try removing the 'radio' so the plan probably falls apart there! I wonder how MINI get the system to work with the Sat-Nav... |

Online | its not dead but negotiations are ongoing 2 options 1 new centre console which moves the factory heater & toggles down so factory radio stays in place & new radio goes between factory radio & heater section 2 new centre console with double din slot. Part of factory radio is relocated to passenger storage area |
