Speakers Upgrade

I've booked my car in at Turner's Audio in Sunderland for next Tuesday. They are replacing the already existing normal Radio Boost speakers with six appropriate Hertz speakers, a 12" Pioneer half-sub in the boot, a Rainbow iPaul 600W Amp all fitted and connected to the standard head-unit for £530.

Anyone else had anything done by them there? I'll let you all know the results either way!

Just be sure and allow 20-30 hours of break in time for the new speakers before you really critique them. It's easier for the installer to do this prior but most won't mess with it.

As capable as I'm sure Mikey is, I couldn't afford the extra cash for the physical fitting, or for the travel expenses to get there, let alone the time required. This place is just up the road with also a very good reputation. I'll let you all know how the whole thing goes.

Update

Got the new system put in today at Turner's. Took them from about 10am 'til 5pm, so a decent day's work. It came, in the end, with a 1000W iPaul Amp, 2x 6x9 Hertz, 2x Hertz Compsite door speakers, 2x Hertz tweeters, and a Pioneer Half Sub.

I'm absolutely thrilled! The sound quality is amazing, the bass; superb.

The whole lot cost £630 in the end which I think is money well spent; I'll be a happy chappy with this setup for years to come I'm sure.

Here are a few pictures:

Tweeters

Front Door Speakers

Rear 6x9's

Time to start listen to proper lossless CD's now I think, no more MP3's!

I must admit that I know little about decent ICE systems, but the ones I've seen on here that Mikey has done, have had the amp fitted under the passenger seat, IIRC; wouldn't it have been better fitted there?

That aside, I'm sure you're very pleased with the vast sound improvement

I'd have to agree, not only has valuable boot space been lost but also the option to lie the seats flat and take large loads

Unless it was too much effort to take the seat out and the carpet to run all that wiring through the car for them

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

I'd see if you can buy the A pillar trims for the Mini Hifi system and mount the tweeters in those, it'd look much neater. I'd also hard the amp controls but hey its all personal preference.

Never heard of iPaul or Hertz, but I've been out of the ICE game for a few years now...

As long as you love the sound that's all that matters.

I'd say it is more because that iPaul amp would not nearly fit under the mini seat. Its about 2 times too big! Aside from this, id say that the actual install charge is incredibly good value, given the amp/speakers used are not cheap and would have taken a big lump out of the £630 figure.

I agree about the boot space being lost, but there wasn't really much in the first place and I don't really use too much anyway. It's one of four cars in the family, and I couldn't fit my all of my golf kit in the car anyway. The sub can be taken out and put back in literally 20 seconds.

I've read that Mikey has quite a good following on here and good reputation to go with it, but that doesn't mean they've done a bad job here. There aren't any wires showing apart from the amp to the sub and from the amp to under the seat.

It took them two hours longer than they expected, it took them that long to get into the back of the head unit!

All I can say is, I'm absolutely thrilled, and good value in my opinion. The trip to Turner's is a lot more convenient than that to Liverpool. The price is very competitive, and service was top-notch and everything was done very professionally. Needless to say the bass is nothing short of awesome, I've unplugged the sub and everything sounds great without it in, so I would have no reservations taking out if I had to. As far as I'm concerned they're certainly an option to anyone in or away from the area.

Daft to do when you have almost no boot to start with and end up with even less.... though I bet it sounds great. And anything is massive improvement on the standard setup.

Those tweeters looks so out of place and to me looks like they have just been placed there.

You should definitely be pleased. I am familiar with all of your gear, and it is very high quality. Also for the price (not quite sure the exact conversion to $), you got a great deal. As stated by a previous poster, if you are satisfied with the sound and the installation, then cheers!
