| Now im Hyper! | New JCW S - Disappointing? As the topic suggests, lets have an open discussion on the new JCW Cooper S. I myself think its a bit disapointing to only get 192 BHP from the Kit, as we are hitting 210 at the moment! I was sure they could do something more, but oh well. However Torque seems quite good. Though i dont agree with the comment the MINI Press Department make in the release- "Impressive" So your thoughts... Offline | Its not the full JCW car though ![]() This is just a dealer fit accessory that you can add to your standard S to give it a bit more noise & power. There will be a full blown factory model JCW in 2008 which should according to rumours have approx 220-230bhp ![]() |

Offline | I can see where you're coming from, but given the fact that there has been a lot of suggestions that the standard "175bhp" unit is pumping out significantly higher power than stated, perhaps Mini still being slightly conservative with their estimates? Some reviews would suggest that the R56 MCS is just about as quick as the R53 JCW, if that is the case, then perhaps the new JCW kit will provide plenty of bangs for the bucks? Is it disappointing? IMO, it'll depend on the difference it makes to the drive and how much the fitted cost works out to be. I'll sit on the fence until I can get my hands on one! |

| Essex Mini2er | I Agree I agree - looks most disappointing! Surely the whole point of launching a revised model is to make it better than the previous??? I currently run a 2005 JCW Cooper S and absolutely love it! I dont think Mini have the balance right with the new model. Don't get me wrong the car is fantastic inside, and the ride very smooth. The end result just seems to have lost the raw racing edge and the character of the previous model. Plus I think its a real pity that Mike Cooper and his team are not designing the JCW range! Offline | I posted last night regarding the JCW specification after talking to the Mini sales guy in Aberdeen - he informed me that the JCW Stage 1 would be in the region of 200 / 220 bhp. As posted above - this is only an intermediate kit. Vroooom Vroooom |

Offline | Everything leads me to believe that this: Next Generation John Cooper Works Cooper S is still on the cards and that this is almost like a "sound kit" or "stage one" kit that is to fill the gap/desire for tuning that aftermarket companies will also be competing for. |

Offline | I hope that this signals an end to the bhp race!!! Lets not forget that its only 8bhp short of the original Works, and with a bunch of torque to go with it. The new S is lighter too is it not?!?!? So it should, (he says), be on par power to weight. From what I've seen of the new standard S, cracking 60 in 6.5 seconds, with another 20ish bhp, its gonna be a great little car! I don't know about you guys, but I like the compromise of decent insurance, decent economy, paying £125 TAX (instead of £190!!), and knowing its got that MINI warranty. I dare say in a year we'll be treated to another S, with 200+ bhp, but till then, I'd be happy with 192! (and lower running costs). James - "The Rogue" - DS/W MCS |

Offline | The new R56 S should have come out with 192 bhp from the start. Or at least the new MCS should have had about 185HP. This would have cost BMW nothing, because a simple ECU remap would cost BMW nothing if it was fitted at the factory. So let's look at the model line up MC Who cares on the HP: MCS 175HP MCS 1/2 Works 192HP MIni JCW (Full Works) 225HP What are BMW thinking? They should have had the full model line up available now and it should have looked like this: MC Who cares on the HP: MCS 190HP MIni JCW (Full Works) 225HP |

Offline | Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I should have stressed that the MINI Cooper is not marketed as a high performance sports package and that the Horse Power figure is not a significant factor in my argument. I apologies again. |

| Syd | Don't want to get into a "mine's bigger than yours" purile power battle. I also find that there are far more knowledgeable members than I (though where they get it from buggers me, as there is an almost childish culture of lack of and mis-information around MINI generally). New JCW-S - Disappointing? I should say! I guess - as others have said, this is just a sound kit, so I would expect about £750 fitted, or it is indeed a blatant rip-off. I bought a late (July 07) R53 JCW210, for this very reason. I didn't like how the R56 looked, information was scarce and I personally preferred a high spec (my choices), Aero kit-ed, black R105 wheels, JCW210, to a GP. It is my second one and I love it. I love the supercharger whine, the poppling exhaust and its whole "personality". It isn't as quick as a GP, but for me, it is every bit as special. R56 now with us - and it is far better "in the flesh", but there is no JCW210 equivalent - yet. I agree with others, that this should be 225 or even 250bhp, so come on MINI, you muzzled John Cooper Works, when it was independent (or a "proper" Works would have been 235+bhp), now you have brought it into MINI (and killed it), let's have a "proper" JCW! UNLESS YOU LIVE LIFE ON THE EDGE, YOU ARE TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE Last edited by Simon Syddall : Mar 11th, 2007 at 08:00 PM. Reason: Wheel number was wrong |
