There are delays with factory painted kits, should be avaliable soon tho.

I know some dealers are painting them up and selling them as factory painted .

Now With Toyo Rubber!!

Any idea when? My dealer said MINI still hadn't provided a timescale for it?

I'm fed up waiting for the factory kit so the dealer is going to paint mine, can't wait to get it

Much as I don't condone lying to customers or trying to pass things of as something they are not, I've always wondered how a factory-painted kit is any better than a dealer-painted one?

Surely a good Bodyshop will do an as good, or maybe even better, job than the factory at painting it? The kit is after all exactly the same underneath?

In answer to the original question though, as cco7ers has already said, a dealer-fitted accessory won't delay a car.

Still nothing official yet Olly, you know what MINI are like at committing to dates!

I'm surprised you've waited this long though, Aston had his dealer-painted kit in January and it's spot-on!

It was becuase when I picked my car up the iPod connection wasn't available either, so the idea was that I would drop it in a few weeks later for it to all be done at once.

Also I was curious as to why they were delaying it, so I was happy to hold back origianlly to see if the kit was different in anyway to a dealer painted kit.

IMO and experience nothing will match the finish and flawless look of a factory paint. In the factory they have robots doing the painting, so it is very precise. Perfectly even coats without any run off, and the environment in which the cars are painted is perfectly controlled. So the temp and humidity will be perfect, and there will close to 0 contaminants. The only way a paint shop can come close to this is if you specifically tell them you want a perfect, show quality finish, which they will charge a lot more for, and even then you will still find little flaws here in there.

I don't know about Europe, but here in the states dealer body shops are notorious for producing lackluster, rushed paint jobs. They are also about 30% more expensive than non-dealer paint shops. If it were me, I would go to any lengths to avoid the dealer personnel touching my car unnecessarily.
