JCW Aero kit painted or primed?

Hi,

Could someone please tell me if the JCW aero kit should have the wee bits either side of the exhaust tips painted. The official launch pics from JCW show it as black, but ours are painted.

We requested a factory painted kit, and I'm wondering if they have supplied a dealer painted kit.

Two pics: My own (wifes actually) car with that wee bit painted. And another pic of the official JCW Aero kit launch photo's which show as still in black.

I think those might actually be Carbon Fibre not just painted black. Hard to say really but the only other Aero kitted R56S I've seen looked like this:

Which is basically the same as yours so maybe nothing to worry about.

Hmmmm.

Not sure if we have anything to worry about or not. When we ordered our car we specifically asked for the factory painted aero kit, because, to be honest, we don't trust the dealer's body shop to do a good job. The last job they did for us, they only put a tiny amount of paint on the bumpers. So we decided to go for factory painted, thinking this would give us a better finish. However, with our rear bumper looking like it does, we are thinking that they may have ordered primed bumpers and painted them themselves, and are now passing it off as factory painted. Helluva accusation, I know, and would prefer much more evidence before I go to them with it, which is why I asked the question here.

Try searching for aero kit. I know I've read a number of threads about this subject - if the bottom part should be painted or un painted. All the ones I've seen are painted. at the R56 MINI launch I asked this of my Dealer and he didn't know why it was painted - didn't ask if it was factory fit or dealer. I thought it would look better unpainted but there you go.

Cheers Popey.

I got confirmation yesterday by a friend in another dealership that it is definitely a factory painted kit that we have.

Not sure I'd want a carbon fibre strip there. Not a CF fan.

I guess this subject is now resolved. many thanks for every one's input.

Cheers,

A.

Hi Fergus,

It seems it is painted when it comes from the factory too. I didn't want "the dealer" to paint the kit after having a bad experience with their work in the past.

More than happy with our body kit, I was just questioning the origin of the kit.

Dont accept it.

Get back to the dealer, speak to the after-sales manager and tell him/her you don't accept that workmanship and you want it replaced. There is NO reason the colour shouldn't match if done properly.
