spoke to my dealer (Lind in Chelmsford) they rekon they're going to have a kit fitted to their existing demo for the end of July but they quoted me £1633 fitted. That sounds expensive doesn't it?

I rang up parts at my dealer about the kit and he checked up on the computer while i was on the phone and it came up as not yet available, awaiting UK testing and homogenation. He rang me back half an later to say he'd been in touch with BMW to ask for a release date and they had told him the parts and not yet been fitted to a UK car for test so could not give him a date.

£1663 does sound a bit steep as the parts are only £1095 including vat, with a suggested fitting time of two hours. There are two dealers in Scotland who will fit the kit all in for £1200, you could drive to Scotland get it fitted, drive back and still be £300 better off.

So if i wanted to purchase the items without having them fitted then it would cost me £1095 ?. If thats the case is it really now £150 per hour for a BMW/ MINI mechanic to fit it?

My dealer charges £100 per hour an he's the cheapest in the midlands. Daro911 in a post earlier in the thread says his dealer charges £188 per hour, so maybe £150 per hour is about the average dealer charge.

Thats ridiculous, I wonder what sort of hourly rate our overseas friends pay for BMW/MINI service. Is it a case of us getting ripped off or is it everyone?

As we have a S in order we also ordered the JCW Kit. Price was EUR 1.650 exclusive installing which is set for 4 hours. No installing charges as part of the buying deal of a new car.

I've also seen the dealers press release and it is definately 4 hours. The press release for the USA states 2 hours though...................................your guess is as good as mine

Confused by the delay on this kit, as Mike Cooper as stated officially that the kit has been ready / signed off for weeks and that kits are boxed in his factory

Hi Roland,

I'm still on the case to find out if this cat downpipe or just the exhaust manifold between turbo and engine.

But it's hard going as no one seems to know until they get a kit in and for some reason they've not hit dealers yet !

The JCW website does not mention the manifold as part of the kit either.

Washy, well spotted as that's been added recently and confuses things even more. However it would mean GTT stealth cat can be added too meaning serious performance

However a little dissapointed in the power curve for the Tuning kit as it's a full 1k revs later before the power matches that of the std. MCS and any power benefit is from 4k onwards.

At least traction will remain about the same

The more i look at it though, the less it makes sense.

MCS - 175bhp @ 5500rpm
Works - 192bhp @ 6000rpm

So pro-rata they should have the same power curve with the works having more at top end. On top of this the Works has a little more torque across range so how can the power come in later like the graph shows.

Am i missing something obvious, or is that grapth flawed ?.

Come on guru's, ease my pain

Hi, I think this JCW kit is going to get the power IMO almost solely from the re-map. (I doubt the cat back & airfilter will do anything apart from justify more money & labour). The stock car drops boost down to around 12psi by 5500. Reprog the boost to hold say 14 psi to 6K and youve got a power increase. Check out my Boost Pressure thread. The crazy thing is power(boost) appears to depend on how quickly you stamp on the gas pedal...maybe the JCW prog addresses this quirk.
Japper...thanks. You dont think they've changed their mind & decided not to put the manifold in the kit ? TBH the manifold isnt going to need changing just because you up the boost a couple of psi. We up the boost on a Renault 5 from 10psi to 30psi and their just fine (just glow a bit more orange !)
