Is the stock air filter cylindrical as shown in the following picture?

Looks like the R53 JCW filter.

Nope... it's a standard rectangular flat panel fiter. That's the JCW internals pictured.

Just been to the dealer to sort out my car and they have their kit being fitted to the demo car. So it looks it is out.
My kit was ordered as soon as they had the chassis number for the car and I am hopeful I will get it on the 1st Sept

Does the exhaust loose the popping. Ive noticed american cars dont have it, so im just wondering if the jcw will loose it too.

I would guess (and it's just that - a guess) that just like now, the EU market will get a different ECU program, just like it is now for the S. Its the only thing keeping the popping off-throttle out of the US cars right now.

If anything I would guess it ADDS it to the US cars, since there has been several requests for it and it might appeal to those who would bu such a kit. Add to the audible sporty-ness of the car and all.

I was told by my local dealer that when you order the kit, it has to be paid for up front. This is because the VIN specific activation code is set at the factory and the CD is sent out with the kit. It can therefore only be fitted to your particular chassis number.

I do like the 'sound' of the kit but i wont commit until ive read a report or two and had the CO emissions confirmed, oh and sorted out some Insurance. I did phone More Than (who im with at the moment) and they said that they wouldnt insure my car with the stage 1 kit fitted.

As you can see, there are quite a few things to consider for the 'relative' increase in performance.

I spoke to more than and they wouldn't insure me either. Some of the others such as direct line told me that that would treat it as a works.

My dealer told me that if you ordered it you could not change your mind because of the activation code too

Thats the same as me on a 1.25 Fiesta (27, 6 years NCD, No Points or accidents)

Intresting that Directline will insure it as a JCW as they wont let anyone under 25 mod there car (no alloys, bodykit, air filter) (Mrs is 22)

According to local dealer this kit is still not 'officially' released. I believe product update bulletins get sent out to dealers on a weekly basis every Monday. So only two more Mondays left if i'm to get my kit fitted before picking car up on 1st Sept. otherwise more messing about with insurance

Not good...

thought this time might be third time lucky. I took my first R53 JCW without the kit as it didnt turn up in time.....my current factory JCW was delayed....oh well

I have just started a thread in the R53 John Cooper section about what youre vehicle will be shown as on the log book with a JCW conversion fitted.

Im now having real difficulty finding Insurance because they all say that they wont touch a Cooper S with a JCW Conversion because its not fitted at the factory and its merely a modification to improve performance.

Ive tried all the big ones such as Admiral/More Than etc and they all say the same. Unless its out of the factory as a Works then they will not touch it with a bargepole.

Im now beginning to wonder if it would be worth it

I did say that its not like ive just popped down to Halfrauds and bought a load of booty to slap on the new car to make it go faster..........................ITS A PROPER CAR!

But in essance, they see it as the same thing.

I don't know how competitive they are but surely MINI's own insurance should cover it.

Scotland

Guys was away for weekend spoke to dealer who said kit being fitted to 2008 model MCS for demo will be available to drive 01/09/2007, they said that the kits have been going for dealer demo's instead of customers so this has held up supply as well. I don't know if this is correct but sounded as though they new there stuff.

Spoke to my dealer today and they had fitted the kit to their demo and were just fitting the
R109 wheels, he said ring back tomorrow and if everything had gone OK they would arrange a test drive for me. He said customer orders would still be the middle of September. I asked how long the kit had taken to fit as the kit fitted in the review on Motoringfile had taken 6-7 hours to fit, he said it had taken no time at all.

As far as I know even the factory fit cars were still MCS's as it was just an option rather than a specific car....
