Offline | Having just bought a GP 2 1/2 months ago I would agree. Much more fun than a New generation Cooper S. May change my mind when the final spec comes out though. ![]() Last edited by RedIan Dwarf : Sep 22nd, 2007 at 11:54 PM. Reason: Typo error |

Offline | I'm confuuused - (not tricky at the best of times...) is this the SAME rumour as the non-road-legal Challenger (now officially announced), or is it a factory-prod road-legal Works we're talking about... ![]() ![]() |

Offline | i know i have heard rumours of a 225 bhp mini cooper s called the JCW stage II. well before that i had known about mini releasing a challenge cooper s. tbh im a bit gutted they have turned out to be the same car, which is what this article seems to state. i was hoping the challenge car would be exactly that with a road legal version similar to that of a new GP works car being the JCW stage II. I had also heard that it wasnt being released until 2009 with production starting in late 2008. If anyone has any more information please post. ![]() |

Offline | There is no 'real' info! Everything regarding it on the internet is rumour, however some dealers have taken deposits. Having said that they themselves don't seem to know anything about it! I asked my dealer as soon as I found out people had paid deposits, they said they didn't know anything at all and would not take my money. They assumed the dealers had taken the deposits to give first refusal IF any announcement was made for a new model. My guess would be Nov '08 for the JCW if it exists and they wouldn't announce it this early. |

Offline | If a JCW car IS in the pipeline rather than the roll-caged Challenge, won't this basically be a Cooper S with all the kit added? To be honest, I would stick with speccing-up a normal S with brake and engine upgrades, because the stiffer Works suspension absolutely ruined the GP (in my opinion). It's no wonder some mags said a Golf GTI would beat a GP across country, due to the better resolved suspension. I would tend to concur to an extent, having had one and been shocked at the 'skippy' way it rode when driven hard. |

Offline | Owning both a GP and a GTI I would have to disagree, we on the roads in Surrey anyway. The shorter wheelbase on the GP coupled with the firmer ride makes it a much faster cross country car. |

Offline | Wasn't the GP suspension absolutely idenitical to the Works suspension? The GP just had all the Works stuff fitted i.e. brakes, suspension, engine upgrade (plus a couple of extra bhp etc) I agree that the GP goes round corners like it's on rails, but it's established that longer wheelbase cars generally give a better ride. I just found that my car skipped and hopped across uneven road surfaces and was quite a handful - it's probably true that you can drive other, similarly-powerful cars quicker (maybe even 230Bhp ED30 GTIs, which is the car I was referring to...yes, I know it's much heavier). I don't think we're going to agree though, as you guys are current owners and obviously love your GPs! Fair enough. |
