R56 MCS JCW Tuning Kit - Will It Increase Residuals?

I have read with interest the details of the pending JCW 192bhp tuning kit for the MCS. I just wondered, as it is an official upgrade, supplied with a certificate of authenticity, will it have an effect on the retained value of a car fitted with the kit?

I know that an upgrade like this is to be enjoyed, but it would be nice to know when spending in the region of £1500 that I might see some of the value back when it comes to trade in time!

Does anyone have experience of the effect of having fitted a JCW tuning kit on a 1st Gen MCS residual value?

You'll never get back the full price, like any option really. It may increase desirability for some, but many others may steer clear of them as they'll be harder to insure and may be treated more harshly, as with any "tuned" car.

Never 100%, sure... but I bet a "JCW" badged car fetches more money on the used market than an equally equipped & modded MCS.

It should do, but it wont get back 100% of the extra cost of conversion, so you're still losing more money. Just like a high specced car really, it may increase the appeal and you you may get more, but not the value of the extras.

C'mon, Paul... can't you see I'm trying to rationalize my way into a JCW kit later this month! Or at least I'm hoping it's later this month. Delays, delays, delays.

I asked my dealer to get confirmation from Mini finance on this and they have set the retained value at £600. When you consider that there are dealers fitting this for £1200, you get the enjoyment and the warranty then it's a bargain.

I don't think they do. As someone who always thought they would I think the reality is far different. It's more to do with the cost of your car more than anything else. The higher the spec the more you'll loose.

Equivalent spec for spec, a JCW car will always fetch more than a standard. Market forces will always deem there to be a gap between the two, just as there is between a cooper and a one or a 330i and a 325i etc. etc.

The previous ( R53 ) JCW didn't keep much of it's value because it was overpriced compared to aftermarket tuners. This 192 kit is value for money so will definately perform better financially.

Dont spend the money thinking it will increase the resale, do it cause you want to. This spec for resale is a major loser, when it comes time to trade you will regrete all the extras . I did big time.

It will be worth more, I don' think anyone is arguing with that, but it will be worth less than the cost of the JCW kit, so you're going to lose more money with it than without. Also while the JCW may be more desirable, it also makes the car less easy to insure and will possibly worry people that the car has been tracked or treated more harshly because it's "tuned", OEM or otherwise.
