Hi all apologies if this has already been answered elswhere but will there be an increased insurance premium after the stage 1 kit is fitted? the R53 went from GRP15>18 post kit so I wonder if something similar will happen?-hope not!!

Hard to tell on mine because it was only for part of year, but pro rata it looks like mine was a 25% ( £90 ) increase from my R53MCS to the R56MCS Works.

Yes your insurance will most likely go up, unless your very very lucky!

Its a modification to the standard car so you need to find out before buying it, and you need to declare all mods as if you don't your insurance will be void.

This is the only part of the works kit I am dreading, I have had modified cars (though no engine mods) before and insurance can be a nightmare based on their policy, your age and stuff. A lot of companies won't even cover modified cars...

My insurer didn't care at all! Maybe I am one of the lucky ones.

I phoned today saying the kit wasnt ready when I bought my car (saturday) but will be fitted next week. I explained it added 10% to the power. And it was an official accessory, which BMW only supply on a dealer fit basis.

My premium didnt change in the slightest!

Maybe its no extra cos I'm an old git (36) and its a second car (thus second policy!)

Is there finally a benefit of getting nearer to 40?

Thanks for the tip Den

Had to renew today so gave these a call on Saturday. They halved my excess and cut my premium including 'my recent points' to £350

It's good getting older.....................for some things anyway

I was going to get the Ins through Adrian Flux but then after shopping around and following a loooonnnngggggggggg phone call from Elephant (i know i know, lol), they agreed a price and it even has all my extras listed on the Ins Policy Schedule including the Chili Pack.

So im now insured from next week and all for the reasonable amount of £333.

Not bad for a MCS Works.

(You do have to be careful though and make sure that they list all extras)

I have got away with no increase also, I'm insured with Quinn Direct. The fact that my wife has just got another 3 points on her licence making it 6 in total won't help though!!

I've just been quoted a £90 increase until March - so about £180 a year, not bad for a 20 year old I suppose.

elephant...mmmm.. read the small print and you'll probably find all your extras are not covered, even if you listed them....listing them just puts up the premium.

If you have a "total loss" they also cancel your policy so you can loose up to a years worth of cover...and if you have a "total loss", as I did, then the fun and games begin with them checking with DVLA that you have no points etc that they don't know about...and then slowly progressing things...took me ages to get ££

..I would never recommend them to anyone..

I understand your caution.
They now have a listing for cars with Chili Packs etc so at least you should get at least this back.

Iam happy that they are covering what ive got. What i was mainly concerned about was the fitting of the Works Kit. But they have that down on the schedule as a modification.

But you still have to be very careful with them....as always.
