Unhappy New S works only 190bhp?

Was looking at mini.co.uk today and was loving the interior and exterior options you can get from JCW. However I was disappointed to see that the works kit "only" offers 190bhp compared to 210 in the previous gen MINI. Any ideas why this is? I see the torque is similar but 190bhp these days isnt a huge amount of power.

The dealer-fitted 'Stage 1' kit is 190bhp, yes.

The John Cooper Works factory model, due out next year, will be 210bhp.

I think some people on here have said that the R56 MCS is as quick as the first generation works and thats with 175bhp so the 192 bhp should be a useful gain. My dealer has got their works kit fitted to the demonstrator so why not pop and see if your dealer has and take it for a spin.

Look at the peak power and especially torque, and when you have that 'on tap'.

No, the Mini Challenge race car is not road legal, though you can buy one if you want an expensive track toy.

Look a bit further down that article.

These are just rumours though still aren't they? Nothing has been confirmed...

I would guess that such a model would be likely, but I can also remember a while back when all Mini sites reported there would be no dealer fit R56 Tuning kits....

The R56S is really more than what the paper bhp numbers would suggest. What the bone-stock S does with175 bhp is incredible.

I have a feeling allthough 192bhp is lower than the previous generations JHW on paper, the overall performance of the newer car is going to be off the hook.

I was an early adopter and haven't been disappointed over 8000 miles... I'll give the JCW kit a shot.
