Black & Sooty Exhaust?

I noticed today that the exhausts tips on my R56 MCS with the JCW1 kit are blackened with soot! In the good old days, this would indicate that the engine is running too rich and needed a tune up. But in these days of self adjusting engines with CO2 sensors etc, the engine should keep it's mixture 100%.

So is this sooty looking exhaust normal or does the MCS need a trip back to the dealer or do I need to phone a chimney sweep?

It's normal, it's also at least in part associated with those lovely pop, bangs and burbles the exhaust can sometimes play for you.

Perfectly normal, the stock MCS does it also.

I only clean the outside of mine, after a few miles the inside will be blackened and it hides the awkward looking bit in the middle that joins the tail pipe trims to the actual exhuast.

I considered powder-coating the interior wall of mine if I could get some stock tips to go on tempararily. We'll see.
