Online | According to my dealer today they will not be offering the full range of colours. Only Red, White, Black, Silver and Dark Grey. I don't really understand this at all, and i wanted lightning blue! |

Offline | My dealer says that he will have information on the spec and colours next week. I had hoped to get mellow yellow with black wheels and vipers so fingers crossed Rogan200 is wrong. If Rogan200 is correct it will have to be red and black with lashings of carbon and alcantara. |

Online | The car will be on your dealers system for order on Thursday (1 May) with all options, prices etc. They already have the spec information though on their online product information system. |

Offline | Well, with a bit of luck the game might be back on for me. As the alternative is driving round in a Golf, I'm prepared to do just about anything to get hold of a Works Clubman this summer (I can't/won't wait until '09). And it looks like I might not have to. It might end up costing me about a grand more, but I've been told by one dealership *not in the UK* that they can sell me a right-hand drive JCW Clubman this summer. Why the car has to go from Oxford to *parts foreign* then come back into the UK is beyond me, but if that's what it takes for me to get the car I want, then so much the better. Interestingly, I've found that the *foreign* dealership was so much more efficient than some I've spoken to in the UK. They listen to what you need to know, go away and find out the answer, then ring you back - all in the space of an hour. |

Offline | My understanding is that a car bought in one part of the EU can be imported into the UK relatively easily nowadays. The main issues are LHD/RHD (which I'm told is no problem at all, ordering a RHD car), and possibly headlight beam patterns (they being different on the continent, hence those little stickers you have to apply when driving abroad). I have been lead to believe that those are about the only real hurdles - if anyone knows differently, let me know. Of course, the dealership can't export the car back into the UK - that would tread on too many toes. So I have to fly over there and collect it in person, and drive it back. Far, far from ideal, but the only viable option given that the alternative is no JCW for me. Other differences in the UK and EU cars - such as the base spec being slightly different (the alarm isn't fitted as standard, for example, car crime being a particularly British problem during the 80s and 90s apparently) are easily overcome with the healthy list of MINI options. Like I say - if anyone knows different, please let me know. And it is a ROYAL pain in the arse, and will cost quite a bit more, but it's worth doing because the alternatives (buying a Golf, buying a different Clubman to "tide me over", trying to manage with the current Hatch) are all particularly unattractive. I remain hopeful that MINI UK will come to their senses, but pessimistic/realistic enough to believe that that won't happen. Anyone from MINI UK cruising these boards - kick someone up the backside really hard for me. In these days of environmental concerns and carbon emissions, I find it almost offensive that the only way to buy a car built in Oxford is to have it shipped to parts foreign, then fly over there and drive it back again. A round trip of maybe 2,000 miles instead of 50. Still, at least it'll be mostly run-in by the time I'm home again. |

Offline | Ah - sorry - missed the joke completely. My bad, it's late here. And no, it's impossible to import foreign efficiency and logic to the UK. Against Human Rights, in breach of local diversity policies, and would generally be regarded as a Bad Thing by all the middle management, middle men and middling intellects here in the UK. If we really were as bright as we like to think we are, we'd still have a car industry, just like the Germans, French and Italians. The fact that perceived wisdom in the UK that there's no way to make any money out of manufacturing doesn't seem to have prevented Munich from doing quite nicely, thanks. |

Offline | I owned an imported S3 for a few years. A friend had imported it and we both had no problems in owning the car or getting it serviced/warranty work done. You will have a unique car in the UK for a while I guess! |

Offline | It has only dawned on me that the Works Clubman is NOT available only in the UK. That stinks. Importing a EU spec car is relativeley painless. You need to inform HMRC and agree to keep the car for 12 months (I think) - as long as you pay VAT in the Eu you shouldnt have a problem with them Get a type approval certificate from BMW (£50) - they should be able to provide this with the car Get the dealer to write a letter that it has UK pattern headlamps and speedo in mph Send all this off to VOSA and you will get a certificate that will allow you to register the car in the UK This might help Department for Transport - How to import your vehicle permanently into Great Britain and Department for Transport - How to import your vehicle permanently into Great Britain ![]() Last edited by paa100 : May 1st, 2008 at 10:16 AM. |

Offline | The aero kit is certainly available (for the Hatch), but as a dealer-fit accessory IIRC. Unless you live in teh UK, where it's fitted as standard from the factory. Weird that you can't have a blue leather/black cloth interior on the Clubman Works (unless its a typo on the list). |

Offline | Good grief. I am just about capable of believing that I am the only potential Works Clubman purchaser in the UK who wasn't happy to wait until 2009, just so the car can have the extra aerokit. I am also prepared to believe that almost every other purchaser of a Wroks car thinks that aerokit is very, very important, and they wouldn't consider buying a Works without it. I'm perfectly happy to believe that most people think that the JCW aerokit in the accessories brochure (as shown on the Hatch in the Works publicity materials) looks attractive. I can even believe that there are people who will welcome the restricted choice of colours for the Works in the UK. But is there anybody on this planet who thinks that the aerokit that is shown on page 3 of the Canadian Works PDF is anything other than ruddy awful? Seen here at MotoringFile | MINI Cooper news, reviews and opinion. http://motoringfile.com/files/jcw_canada.pdf As if the Canadians don't already have enough to contend with. But if *that* is supposed to be the aerokit that UK purchasers are being asked to wait nine months for, I do not want to think about how I might react. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that those pictures represent nothing more than some marketting flunky's experimentation with Photoshop. |
