Offline | Hi Rogan, The stripes were fitted by a sign company that the dealership uses to fit all their stripes. I brought in a photo to the delarship and they took it to the sign shop and voila. It was a lot cheaper as well. The dealership wanted £200 for their small selection of stripes, and it would have been the same sign shop that would have fitted them. Then labour on top of the £200. Sign shop supply and fit £140. I'll give the dealership a phone about the darkened glass. Thanks |

Offline | JCW Tyres I noticed on my dealers demo that the tyres are Dunlop Runflats, but the demo at the motorshow had continentals. The dunlop is a more expensive tyre. I assumed the show one was just a mistake - maybe the show car had had to have new tyres at some point, but then in the pictures above from "turbosx200" i notice he too has the conti. See the difference here: Dunlop: Continental: I wonder why they would put different tyres on different cars of the same model built in the same factory? |

Offline | The Tire Rack classifies the Continental ContiSportContact 3 SSR as a Max Performance Summer TIre and the Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST as a Ultra High Performance Summer Tire. The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT (Max Performance Summer Tire) is also available in 205/45-17 and priced between the Continental and Dunlop tires. |

Offline | It's hard to be certain of the darkened rear glass question - try taking a photo with a piece of white paper stuck behind the front side window, and an identical piece of paper in the rear side window - catch both pieces of paper in the same photo, load it up in phoptoshop, and see what colour it says the pixels of the paper *really* are. then go back and beat your dealer over the head with actual "scientific" evidence, because they sure don't look darkened to me! Red/Black pretty much cries out for some sort of black stripe - the Clubman even more so. I'm going to go for something like the classic twin viper stripe on mone. As for the tyre question, I'd be amazed if MINI or dealers were cynical enough, clued-up enough or organized enough to have better tyres on the demo cars to try and "fool" customers. OEM tyres have pretty much always been down to what the manufacturer gets in at the time - although they may stick with the same tyre for the whole production run of the car, if they get a better deal (for which read "cheaper"), they'll switch over in an instant and not tell anyone. On the cynical git front, I half expected MINI to supply the press with Works cars equipped with the JCW suspension - though it rather sounds like all the press cars were pretty standard (though possibly with a mix of standard suspension and sports suspension). Not that I care which tyres are going to be fitted to my car - they rarely last more than about 10-12k, so will be swapped within 9 months come what may. The bigger question is going to be "Swapped for what, and is my insurance company one of those who seems to think swapping from runflats is an excuse to play silly buggers with me?" |

Offline | I know Mini dealers are renowned for their "no discount" policy, but with the recent Credit Crunch and drop in new car sales, has anyone managed to haggle any good deals?? About to order my JCW |

Offline | Nail-biting wait... I ordered back in May, have had a bit of a fracas with tinted windows (ViscountCharles will remember) which was resolved by Mini UK almost instantly (didn't want tinted in chili - got what I wanted - a miracle according to some!) and sort of generallly put the thing in the back of my mind as I asked for a 58 delivery on September 1st... This was fine until dealership called last weekend - "We've got the Demonstrator in - want to come down and take it for a spin?" YES PLEASE!!! So I went down there on Saturday, and first off had all the paperwork to complete, including trade-in of my old S (sorry Pepper, it's been fun!!) a few dealer-fit options to go through, etc etc... all the time a slick little black missile was sitting outside the dealership taunting me... So I finally got my test drive. The dealership is just off the M4, and being a busy weekend at Heathrow I wasn't really expecting to get that much of a chance to put my foot down, but I can tell you by the end of the test drive they needed a crowbar to get my hands off the wheel - my partner said I had the "Mini Grin" on my face for most of the time. So I have really given myself a problem. According to the ordering system, my baby was born on Friday, and is probably on the back of the stork-truck en route to dealership today. As I said there's a few dealer-fit bits n bobs to get done, but the crux of it is this... I have to sit on my hands for a MONTH, KNOWING that MY JCW is sitting in a paddock less than 5 miles away, AND THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO!!!! ...I still think it's worth it to get a '58 plate though ;-) CANNOT WAIT!!! I'll publish piccies and update my stats after the "big day" (If I can get away from the steering wheel and near a PC for long enough...) Last edited by LordNemesis : Aug 4th, 2008 at 10:19 AM. Offline | I have to wait for another seven months, knowing that Clubman Works cars are being supplied to te rest of the world. Cannot wait, but have to. There was a nice-looking Works at Donnington yesterday, parked next to the MINI Challenge marquee. recaros, JCW steering wheel, and the neat looking exhaust. It wasn't moving, though. I was suprised to see that they were actually racing R50s and 52s - I hadn't realised that the Works Challenge cars oft-mentioned in connection with the JCW cars aren't actually raced in the UK. |

Offline | I really do feel for you! I'm going to be in exactly the same boat! I also ordered really early and could have had a launch day car, but i don't want it until 1 October for insurance reasons and thats my birthday. Its due to be built week 33 (week beginning 11 August), and delivered to dealer week 36. I'm then gonna have a whole month to wait with the car sitting in a field! It will be sooo frustrating! Originally it was scheduled to be delivered to dealer mid september but mini seem to have brought it forward rather annoyingly. I'm actually quite annoyed my car will be sat outside for 4 weeks getting no care! |

Offline | I just phoned the dealership and they checked and found that the factory forgot to fit the darkened glass. I'm starting to worry they might have forgoten to fit other things now. Anyway, the dealer said they would order the darkened glass in and fit them for me. My only concern is that this glass is bing fitted outwith the factory and that it will not be as good as being done in the factory. Also I'm worried that the window seals would not be the same. Am I just being overly concerned. Should I kick up some stink about this? |
