Offline | Problem is, you *can't* make a "factory works" out of the dealer-fit upgrades. Some bits can be done - like brakes and exhaust - but the factory Works gets a number of internal engine and gearbox modifications that go beyond the JCW tuning kits. Plus DTC can't be retrofitted (although arguably you could be better off with the LSD). You could order a CHALLENGE car to get most of the upgrades, but that'll cost you quite a bit more. And I'm not sure that they're road-legal anyway. |

![]() JCW Fitted | Bigest part of the bit's can be done via dealer because eveything is aviable to order with regards to the internal engine and gear box mods that a different story becuase no one knows what they consist of might be nothing special but on the other hand and it could be. I would have LSD over DTC anytime but thats personal preference again. The Challenge car is not road legal but would be quailty if it was. |

Offline | Well, as much as you're going to possible get a better spec (as you would for the top model), has no one considered insurance group and costs involved? For most people that don't have 5 full years no claims and arent over 25, are going to get a hefty insurance quote. I can only guess the JCW will be a group 19 or 20 car considering it's power. Anyway, I may consider a JCW in 2/3 years time . The original R56 S is enough for me . |

Offline | I must be crackers, but after a lot of grumbling, whining, complaining, soul-searching, head-scratching and pondering, I've reinstated my order for a John Cooper Works Clubman. I'm not happy - will never be happy - with the extra wait, but the alternatives (buy Golf, buy a JCW from Germany, buy another type of Clubman, buy something now and trade it in next year) were all either too expensive or just too difficult to accept. Now I have to hope that my current MCS soldiers on (though the only thing that's gone wrong since the warranty expired three years ago is a Xenon bulb), and we'll just have to manage with the inadequate boot space we have now (one little one - buggy in the boot and luggage on teh other rear seat; two little ones, buggy in the boot and luggage on our laps). But it'll be cheaper to hire a car for our summer holidays than to replace the MINI now, just to trade it in when the Works is finally ready. Offline | Going in to the dealer (Coopers) Saturday to order mine. Currently, have an '05 works cooper s and despite considering all sorts of alternatives am getting another one. Pleased to see they have made it a more comprehensive package this time round. What kind of delivery dates is everyone looking at (UK)? I spoke to them as soon as the details came out so hoping it won't be too long after July. Also, have the dealers got test cars in yet? Only major decision now is colour - pure silver / black roof or astro black!?!? Any comments?? Pete. |

Offline | Anyone have any insight as to why Mini UK are not offering their full colour range on the JCW car? I know all the standard colours are available on US cars so it cannot be a manufacturing issue. Thanks, Rogan |

Offline | I could take a guess. But it involves me calling them rude names again. It's the same sort of thinking that lets the rest of the world get their hand on Works Clubman cars this summer, but has the UK waiting. Though I want red/black anyway, so I'd be alright *if* they were building the car that I want this year. Bitter, moi? |

Offline | Ive now asked mini UK and got the following response: "......... The new John Cooper Works model is available in Astro Black, Pepper White, Silver Grey and Chilli Red. These colours have been selected as the most appropriate in relation to this model, therefore no further colours will be released. This model will be produced on a separate production line within our factory. The colours shown as available on the MINI.com international website are generic and are not country specific. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.Yours sincerely MINI UK........" |

Offline | Definately, absolutely, no doubt about it (unless they've had a change of mind). I spoke with people at MINI UK "in the know" when I was unhappy with the Works Clubman, and the included aerokit was definately a "done deal" - so much so that no amount of whining on my part was going to get me a UK-spec Clubman before 2009, precisely because they are not releasing the car until the aerokit is ready. They are obviously aiming at a market sector where extra styling features are obligatory - to be fiar, most other manufacturers' top of the range hot hatch includes things like modified bumpers, sills or wheel arches. In context, the restricted colour choice also fits the general pattern - you can buy a Golf in a variety of colours, but ask for a GTi30 or an R32 and suddenly the pallet is drastically reduced, and there's no choice at all with regard to the interior colour scheme. At least MIN I seem to be sticking with most of the usual options - except a few combinations aren't available, such as no blue/black half leather. Though of course no-one in their right mind would have specced that on a red/silver/white or black car. |
