Factory JCW - Airbox / filter

I was in Menzies yesterday having the JCW rear sway bar fitted and had a look at the factory works in the showroom. I also ordered the inlet tube to see if it will fit on my stage 1 JCW. In doing so i saw that the factory works filter goes back to the std. R56 MCS in USA trim, i.e flat filter with larger airbox.

Weird or what or the sceptic in me thinks that this is an ideal future update by MINI to squeeze a few more horses / money out of the customer

I wouldn't be at all surprised! Hmmm a John Cooper Works Mini with JCW Tuning kit typical!

How much was the inlet tube? Is it significantly larger ala Alta?

It looks to be bigger and is described as being 'optimised' for more air flow. It also keeps the OEM look. Cost was £60 inc. discount
