Offline | 2007 -- no auto for the S? I've been waiting on the 2007 (my wife has a 2004 already) and I'm definitely going to lean toward the S, but I'm a bit large and although I fit fine and comfortable in my wifes CVT-equipped Cooper, I don't think I could manage a manual transmission without undue pain. And leg cramps. But all I've seen so far indicates that the 2007 Cooper S will not have an automatic transmission option. Has anyone heard/read anything to the contrary? -W- |

| MINI2 Regular | Not heard anything specific, but I would be REALLY surprised if there wasn't an auto option. Like the current MINI however, you may have to wait for an auto option to be available. It is too large a market for there not to be an automatic option, especially on your side of the pond! There aren't many hard facts yet, its too early still for many details on the new MINI. Offline | I know, I know... Thanks, I know there will be one eventually -- I think the demand will be there, as there is currently. What delayed it before was the fact that the CVT on the S engine resulted in disappointing performance and disappointing fuel consumption. I suppose I will have to wait -- and live with SUV fuel consumption for a while longer. Although buying used is tempting...that way I could wait longer...sort of a bridge car... I do this with every purchase. I'll try not to hand-wring too much here. ![]() |

Offline | If you want to drive an SUV, that is fine. However, the S does not come with a CVT, and has been available with a six speed Aisin automatic since early 2005. I have seen nothing indicating that the Aisin will not be available on the 2007 S from introduction, it is not a new item. Check the Automatic transmission forum on this website for lots of opinions. I like it, we have two at this time. ![]() ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | i read somewhere that BMW are developing a double-clutch sequential like the VW DSG, think it was for the new M3. Maybe theyre thinking of something along those lines for the 2008 S, or even the new JCW "....you'd be getting a child from Albania.......you mean all white with pink eyes???....." |

Offline | It's OK, very comfy, but is too big for what it gets used for -- commuting to work and back, 50mi a day round trip. It also handles like a toaster. True, and it would make sense for it to carry over. From what I've read, they tried to mate the S to the CVT, but the results didn't work out in their testing, so they went back to the drawing board. I'll just have to wait and watch... |

| MINI2 Regular | I own two cars, the other is a CVT. Its good for a low powered car but agreed it doesnt really work with more power. I wonder what the Nissan Murano drives like? Anyway, a DSG equivalent on an S would be amazing, it would seriously make me think about moving from the manual. Sorry about the SUV fuel consumption dwdyer, just think how bad it would be if you were over here. We pay about the equivalent of $7/USG, and still sharply rising! Maybe people will take up cycling again one day!!! Paul Student desperately finding a way to afford an R56. Donations to... |
