Could be that MINI are thinking ahead and the next evolution of the MCS will combine a supercharger with the turbo - Thus to keep continuity they have left the scoop on.

Na, not practical

its for the intercooler not the turbo or charger!

I still think they could fit the intercooler above the head

Could this scoop be a problem for red cars, people confusing them for post boxes perhaps???

They do now - looking under the bonnet of the new Freelander at the motorshow the engine is sunk about 20cm down

that ruling has probably driven alot of the front end design of the new car then.

maybe they could fit an airbag in the scoop for pedestrian safety, it would then have a use!!!

I reckon the universal dark grey wheelarches that all colours have look great as a contrast with Pepper White or Chili Red for example, but didn't look great on my black MINI - bit of a clash - so I colour coded them

the intake in the bonet would provide a great ram air intake so long as there was suitable water catch built into it to that water wasnt sent to the air filter.

If i was to get a turbo mcs i would make / buy a air filter kit that used the scoop.

Unhappy

fake scoop is a bit silly if u ask me.

only serves to fuel the mini haters out there, even more, and degrade the opion of minis in other performance car circles such as the scooby lovers etc.

i have the supercharged s and i love it, i think it looks much better than the new s and will most definately be keeping it fo ra good foew more years. if i decide on a new mini it will most likley be the cooper model.

i think the new facelift has lost some of its character and is looking less mini-ish.

Leigh.

I do think its characteristic of the model - I know a lot of people now that pick the Cooper from the S by the presence (or lack of) the scoop.. but I think its a bit naff to have it there if its of no use..

As Martin says, hopefully the JCW will make use of it. Still a bit strange for the stock S though

what that man said...

Personally I prefer the look of the MINI with the scoop, it gives it a more agressive character and hints at the performance nature of the car.

I suppose it is silly to have something that isnt functional but then there are loads of things you can get for your mini which aren't functional and are purely cosmetic. Wheres the fun in being functional all the time!

I wish they'd used it to feed cool air into the filter but at least now those who prefer the non scoop can have an MCS if they want
