Gearboxes.

Sorry about this, second topic in a matter of seconds

Quote:
Activating the sports switch, the driver is able to enhance the highly dynamic qualities of the car to an even higher standard by shifting gears even faster in this special Sports Mode. A further benefit is that the driver is now able to shift gears manually by means of paddles on the steering wheel, like in Formula 1. In other words, the driver is not required to take his hands off the steering wheel when shifting gears and is able to fully concentrate on the process of controlling his car especially in an extreme situation.

so just to clarify, all manual models will have 6 gears, there will a normal automatic with that 5 clutch thing, and above with the paddles. the paddle one, will it be incorperated with the cvt transmission so you can either flick it to auto or you can use the paddles? (i dont know anything about the current cvt it might already be like that )

oh, and i havent found out who are supplying the gearboxes, who are making them?? is it still clunky and a bit stiff to change.

oh, im on mini overload at the minute

The new manual 6 speed set up felt pretty much identical to the current set up, although the throw actually seems maybe a little longer, but not by much.

Not CVT, just automatic, and yes, the current Cooper S already has this type of function.

Also it only says the Cooper and S will have six speed and doesn't specify anything about the One at the moment.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Yes, but they didn't mention a getrag anywhere in the press release, and this used to be a big selling point. They also said that the car was completely redesigned--it seemed to imply that the gear box was different.
