Will the Mini lose its 'whine'?

Because of the new PSA engines instead of the old Tritec units, will the power-steering pumps still whine like they do? I hope so, I like it!!!

Well most of the new engines will have a turbo to spin-up, but I bet they're quieter than the current S (the demo's had no bonnet sound deadening). I think the PAS pumps are different too? So, in a word, probably.

Check the videos in the news section: http://www.mini2.com/news.html

It loses it's whine, and gains a whistle.

I love the power steering whine too. Also the fact you can drive at 30mph in 5th gear without the car throwing a wobbly! Will the new peugeot/citreon engine be able to do that?

Didn't get that slow in 5th, but I can't see it being a problem, the new engine felt like it had bags of strength from very low down in the rev range.

I would probably go as far as to say that with the new low down torque that 6th will probably be achievable in a standard car.

BTW, if you have a Works S or better then 30mph in 6th is perfectly possible.

It was acceptable in the 80's

My friends (should I be saying ex-friends) say the whine makes my car sound like a
whale when parking . Non Mini lovers are a mystery to me.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

A whale? What kind of whales have they ever heard? I was once told it sounded like a tie-fighter when parking up!

I'll miss the two whines of the S for sure.
