Has anyone (Paul?) tried the door armrest?

This isn't a big issue but one of the things I don't like about the current MINI is the narrow and, to me, highly uncomfortable driver's door armrest. The new one looks different and seems like it might be wider but actually none of the pics I've seen really show it in anything other than a side view. If anyone has actually seen/used it and can comment I'd be interested in hearing if it has been widened.

I've spent hours in the car, but didn't use the armrest once. But then again, I don't use the armrest in the current car either.

It didn't seem any wider, and again seems more set back (like the pre July 05 cars) than curved out (as with the more recent vehicles). It's always seemed (and been used) more as a grab handle than an armrest to me. The other arm is the gear changing arm, so the one on the door side is for holding the wheel.

showed the pics of the new car to stef last night & she was concerned that the short vertical arm rest bar was no longer on the new design. in her words "that's what i grab hold of when you're going arouund corners too fast!"

It does make a good "gripper" that little bar.

Two modes of motoring: driving and cruising. When I'm driving it's both hands on the wheel and elbows in the air. But when I'm cruising (in the US mind), my elbow is happily resting on the door's armrest and my fingers are lightly wrapped around the steering wheel. Comfy way to travel and my current car allows this quite nicely.
