New "Sports Suspension"

Have those of you that have specd cars made a decision yet about the Sports Suspension option ?

I have SS+ on my current 52 Cooper and although the handling is fantastic, the bumps can get a bit waring after a while. I have read that the R56 cars have been re-engineered to give a more forgiving ride, but am uncertain how the standard and Sports suspension on them will compare to the current SS+.

Paul M, Did you get a feel for this during the test drives you had ?

Cheers,

Paul

Good question. All of the articles I've read talk of the car being more refined and comfortable, but all seem to be based on drives round the (presumably) smooth track at Zandvoort, rather than UK roads.

I'm still undecided on this, myself.

The sports suspension is a no cost option ( with the Chilli pack anyway ) which makes this a hard call. My reasoning on this issue is as follows:

I would have been happy with 16" wheels on my MCS for a better ride, handling and less tramlining. However, I have ordered the Chilli pack which comes with 17" wheels as standard. Because of the shorter sidewall on the larger wheel and as they are runflats which have very rigid sidewalls, I will get a firmer ride than I would have had with 16"wheels.

I have therefore decided not to have Sports Suspension.

I hope this helps

My dealer said that the standard S and Cooper suspension will be much like the current Cooper standard suspension. Sports Suspension will upgrade (downgrade) the standard to be like current Sport Suspension Plus.

The press release implied the MCS was a stiffer and more performance oriented suspension than the Cooper and that the sport suspension was a step beyond that. So three levels in total though only 2 available on each model.

It would be nice if we had some sort of reference that included the spring rate, bar sizes, shock/damper part #. If it's a no (or low)cost option then I imagine it's not better parts, just stiffer ones.

I would probably go for the sport suspension + just because it would annoy if the normal ride tended to be a bit soft and roll around a lot.

As I won't get to test drive one before I spec it i'll just have to hope this is the right decision

My heart says go for it, but my head (and fillings) say to stick with std suspension.

I'd hate body roll as well, so will probably end up opting for SS.
