Hi I am new, finding my way around...sort of!

Just learnt what MCS means!!! That's what I want, a real new old one apparently unavailable now. I am being fobbed off with a new model that looks child heavy at the front is a lot quieter has a turbo (WOW )... buy a Skoda they are far better value!

Have BMW lost the plot?

The new MCS will, in its endeavours to become more user ( spelt USA) friendly, will now have to compete with the likes of Renault, Ford, Honda and VW on their own terms.

That makes it very VERY expensive.

No doubt it will appeal to a lot more of my gender, not me though ..... convince me, until then I will stick to my Company BMW, boring as h*ll, like the new mini.

I have phoned many dealers for the old model, no luck!

Help me find one or convince me that the new model is anything but mediocrity itself!

Yes it's just as fast, so what! I am already cocooned in silence at anything approaching the national speed limit ... in my BMW ... it isn't (or wasn't) about speed or acceleration with the Mini, it was surely FUN FACTOR!

PLEASE enlighten me, I have delayed my purchase (fobbed of the dealer)!

Sorry moderators, I have read your rules BUT hope we can maintain a democracy here!

Welcome Susan.

I think your being slightly judgemental on the new model. We can only go on press reports of the new model but so far but all of these have been very positive and certainly haven't suggested its now like a Skoda to drive

Might be worth checking out this review Fifth Gear did of the new model - YouTube - Fifth Gear New MINI Test Drive

I don't really understand why the MINI has to compete on the terms of these manufacturers, it has never needed to before so why do you think this has changed

When the new model is out in a few weeks, go and take a test drive I am sure you will be convinced it isn't mediocrity

Just done a quick check of all the unsold Cooper S available across the UK, and there are 50 showing.

Apparently, the two dealerships that sponsor M2 have at least one car each, but if you want to know who else to call you'll need to PM me as I do not want to advertise anyone else.

Must admit though, I am very surprised that your local dealer hasn't offered to look and source a car for you!

I supose it is unfair to judge the new generation MINI before driving it, but I do agree with you. The supercharger made it unique in it's class. This is why I bought the one I have instead of ordering a 2nd generation one. To be fair though, it does sound like new MCS will make a bit more "noise" than a BMW.

Thanks Scrogg,

What an interesting name!

I posted here on the subject, What type of person drives a MCS , I want to drive the new car before I make my mind up, by then it will probably be too late!

Typical woman, up tight because I am told no more oldies are available, then when they are......schhhh....typical woman!

It is unfair to judge, you are quite correct.

I will drive a new model one before deciding!

As you will probably have gathered from the onslaught of posts you have prompted over the past few days, this is a really good idea.

Unfortunately, though, I'm pretty certain you are right in that, by the time you have driven the new Cooper S (available at a dealer near you from November 18th) it is unlikely any of the remaining current/old (delete as applicable) Cooper S will be available. There will, of course be a plethora of 'nearly new' demonstators available, so it's not all bad news!

Hon, I always buy new!

So I'll probably end with the new Civic 'R'

Shame on BMW!

I cant remember the magazine but Auto something in the UK timed the new MCS Turbo at 0-60 of 6.9 seconds which is not far off of Works or GP territory and they had it up against a 307 with the same lump, which I think was a second or so slower. I can't remember the exact reason why the Mini was so much quicker but it was some thing to do with the valve tuning and lack of turbo lag?

Still I'm 100% a super charger man. No other car in it's range with an SC which makes it special!

I'm with you on that one as well. 2 works are enough probably for me! Really like the look of the new Civic type R, compared to the old bread van.

The Mini has become normal, run of the mill, except that now it's competing in a class of car above itself! POLO size GOLF pretensions, and price, that sort of thing!

I will take a test drive of course!

5th Gear, sad person?!

Most would disagree!

Even BMW cannot emphasise enough that, as far as they are concerned, they are not trying to compete with any other manufacturer or model. The MINI is what it is, you either love it or you don't (bit like Marmite in that respect!) nobody but you will ever change your mind!

Thanks,

but they are not offering the usual discount for the run out model!

Quite rightly in my opinion!

Mind you I didn't contact them directly........ so maybe my friend has bought it?????????

Still totally undecided!
