R56. So what model(s) is that then???

Just thinking to myself that the 2nd Gen MINI is R56 but the 1st Gen was R50, R53 and 52 depending on the model.

So does R56 refer to the Cooper S, the Cooper and S collectively, or is R56 going to be generic for the 2nd Gen

It was acceptable in the 80's

One, Cooper & S are R56 this time around. Last time the S had a different model number (R53), this time it doesn't. No idea on the logic.

Makes sense though really. As the original S wasn't that far removed from the Cooper and One. Especially as the One D has a totally different engine but was still in the R50 category.

I queried this with my dealer when I placed my order for my R56 MCS.

It seems R56 is the generic code for the new hatchback. On my print off from the factory order system it is an MF72. This code is what the factory uses just as 249 is the code for the Multifunction steering wheel and 359 is the code for the visibility pack, as listed on the Options List that Paul posted a little while ago.
