Offline | R56 - Really quick!? PH: RE: Mini Cooper S v Renaultsport Clio 197 According to this review it hits 60 in 6.6 secs, which is very impressive and much quicker than BMW quote but what is more impressive is the 0-100 in 16.7 secs. That is really amazing when you consider the lightweight Clio Cups etc (about 250kg lighter than the new MINI) were about 17.5 secs 0-100. and also LOADS quicker than the previous S models which was over 20 secs 0-100. |

| MINI2 Sex God & etc...... | I read that the New S can get from 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, dont ask me which mag it was in i carnt remember (Maybe Auto Express). Still a very good time!!! as for the 6.6 seconds this from what i could tell on my test drive would be possible. It was very quick!!!!! I was drooling half way through the test drive, lets put it that way!!! ![]() ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Having test driven the R56 S and driving a 230BHP S at the moment I can see how the mags could get these times. It really is a lot quicker than the figures would lead you to believe. I personally feel it is down to the torque coming in so early and remaining so consistant across the rev range. It really is a quick car. It'd be interesting to see some independant dyno figures for the car. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Autocars full test today shows: 0-60 in 7.1 0-100 in 18.5 and 30-70 in a 6.5 That feels about right. My 2.0TT is 6.6, 16.8 and 5.5. Driving both you can feel the drop in performance. Interestingly they still rate the 197 over the Mini |

Offline | I test drove the clio 197 two weeks ago as i wanted to consider all options before ordering an R56. It doesn't come close to comparing with the mini. You have to thrash the ar*e off it to get it to go anywhere. Unless you are over 5000 revs it barely moves. In addition, 70mph in 6th gear is very noisy with the revs being a fraction under 4000rpm. If you have got the energy everytime you go out to drive like a racing driver, I guess the clio could be an option, but for a more 'rounded' and complete car, the mini wins hands down! |

| MINIBUG | I bought myself a 106 Gti back in 1999. After being initially concerned by the official 0-60 time of 8.7secs I soon suspected this to be a touch generous After running it in I was able to trash a number of cars who's on-paper performance was superior. An identicle engined Saxo VTS was quoting 7.7secs and my 106 was ever so slightly quicker than any of those I came across. Anyway, a couple of years after, I learned that Peugeot had alledgedly weighted the car to give a slower official 0-60 / top speed as this helped obtain a lower insurance grouping for the car. This weight was obviously omitted for production models. Read what you like into that, but that was WAY faster than an 8.7 car. Maybe MINI have pulled a similar con as it's not really aimed at the Hot Hatch market . ![]() |

Offline | Some cars feel quicker than others it's only when you compare it side by side with the old model you'll see the real difference plus how many mini's are identical. spec and engine tolerance will play a big part. I know my s was quicker than identically spec'd cars. ![]() |

| MINI2 Master | This is more realistic than the Autoexpress test. They must have had a 'tweaked' car from BMW. I test drove the new MCS last week expecting great things, only to be utterly dissapointed, It's marginally better in most areas but has lost so much character / styling fluidity in exchange. I also expected it to feel far quicker than mine but on the same roads ( test track ) it was no quicker. MCS + MTH and JCM Race filter. 06 HB/W MCS Chilli |
