| Steeve | Have I made a mistake? I am having the 18" JCW wheels fitted to my new S, but I read comments that say the bigger (even 17") wheels can spoil the steering and handling. Should I stick with them or cancel and stay with 17"'s? ![]() Last edited by steeve : Dec 3rd, 2006 at 06:09 PM. Reason: spelling mistake |

| Steeve | At the moment I havent cancelled the 18"'s should I leave the order or change for those very nice looking 17" anthracite wheels. I'm worried that the 18" will be difficult to live with day to day ... need urgent advice please.... Many thanks. Steve........... |

Offline | In theory larger wheels are will give a higher top speed, but the acceleration will suffer as a result because you have altered the gear ratios.....it will also affect MPG ! In practise the difference would be barely noticeable, but would have an effect on performance and the suspension characteristics. |

| Steeve | Whilst the wheel diameter is larger, the overall size of the wheel and tyre combination stays very much the same as the tyre side wall height is reduced accordingly. So I dont have any concerns on overall changes in diameter. What does concern me is the loss of the extra suspension afforded by a tyre with larger side walls. |

Offline | 18" rims wont handle or ride as well as good 16" or 17" rims. but that said they look the nuts and they don't make things terrible on the MINI. My preference after having had 16-17-18 and now back to 17 is the 17s. Most of the looks of the 18s but with most of the handling of the 16s. Good compromise. but there are many many folks who still have 18s and love them. it all depends on the sort of driving and what you want from the car. R |
