December 06 MCS Build / Delivery Delays - Reasons and speculation thread

saw sight of a memo to all dealers today...

the problem is only affecting Cooper "S" cars and they won't say what is actually wrong on the memo, just that the delay is "to ensure high standard of workmanship at all times"

this says to me - "oh bu%%er we better fix that fault with all of those cars before we send them to dealers..."

I just wish they would tell us what the problem is, so that I know what to look out for when I take delivery...

Lets just hope it comes before xmas...

That would explain why my S was delayed this week and all the Coopers were built as planned.

Thanks for the info

Maybe MINI are worried that everyone will rush to the dealers to get the problem fixed if they already have their MCS's?

If it is such a big problem that cars are delayed for over a week (my car was complete 8 days ago) then I would think current R56 "S" owners would be entitled to know..

Actually that reminds me - when we were at the plant the guy said they were having major problems with the gap between the bonnet and the wheel arches and that meant they were having to take extra care over them. I don't know if that was just on the Cooper S though..

When we walked passed one of the lines one of the associates had their supervisor over looking at the gap and trying to correct it.. Could this be the problem?

Well, I have seen some new cars that have arrived at the dealer yesterday and on some cars the gap was quite big and thus manking it visible from far away...some other cars were almost as the Minis on the brochure, including two with the Aero Kit fitted...strange?? or not??

something I heard the other day was that the delay was due to a cable for the stereo that was being caught/damaged by using the rake/reach adjustment on the steering wheel.

again, we are just speculating as MINI will still not say why this delay has occured...

Does anyone know what is happening with the mini cooper s. I was supposed to be taking delivery of mine next week and I have had a call off the dealer to say that production has been halted, something to do with quality control and 3 cars that have been checked on there system, due for the same time have now been set back to 3rd week in Jan. This is the 2nd delay I have had now.

Nearly everyone is in the same boat, so there is nothing that we can do apart from be patient

I would much rather my car was delayed than delivered with known faults

have you had a date when you are likely to receive yours? or what the fault might be?

The only thing I know of at the moment is my car was meant to be built this week and has since been put back to next week, but I haven't been given a reason for the delay.

After reading what others are saying i'm half expecting it to go back to week 3 in January But until I get told i'll hope for next week

Just out of interest what colour have you ordered. I have ordered Laser Blue. I have also ordered the body kit which they say they have a backlog on and will take up to 6 weeks and an
I-Pod interchange which there is also a problem with and may be at the end of the month (that was what they said nearly 2 weeks ago) before I found there was also a problem with the car. Just hope they get it right for when we take delivery and the problems don't continue on ownership.

Angry Some News!!!

Just spoke to my local BMW dealer, they have received a memo from the head of Mini UK, explaining that there is a problem with the cars which need rectifying (Did not elaborate any further) hence the delays.

My dealer still thinks I will get my car before xmas as it has already been built!! I'm not sure myself!

The only good news is my body kit has arrived apparently? Not much use without the car?

2nd bad news I traded my old MCS in on a special finance deal with a very low apr rate something like 3.9%. If I don't receive the car before the end of the quarter they could charge me something like 8.9% (You must be joking, there will be a lot of unhappy customers)

He also wants to give my old MCS back after its been MOT'd so I can use that over Xmas. I don't think so matey, just imagine if some idiot drives into the back of me, then I will be well and truly up Sh**t creek without a paddle when it comes to Part xchange !!!!

What can I do?

Scrogg I need your advice mate

I have ordered Lightning Blue, also with the bodykit which is delayed as well!

Unhappy Update For Everyone

Just spent my lunchtime on the phone to other local dealers re: delay of mini cooper s.

I was told by a Mini Sales Manager that the reason for the delay is that this will be first batch of new mini cooper s being delivered to customers, instead of demonstrators and showroom cars and that they are undergoing rigourous safety checks before they are released to the dealers.

As there was a problem at the launch of the R53 mini with some cars needing a recall and put right after delivery?

I hope this helps.

The advice was to sit tight.

Exclamation MCS Build / Delivery Delays - Reasons and speculation thread

Heard from our MINI Regional Sales Manager this morning that there is an issue with all Cooper S at the moment, and that he will let us know by tomorrow what is happening. (Apparently he was unaware!? )

Basically for now all built Cooper S are stuck at Oxford and all unbuilt ones are unlikely to be for a few weeks!

Is that why the Cooper orders are moving forward. Mine has jumped from late January to week 51?

Scrogg did you pick up the PM? yesterday.

Yup just spoke to my dealer - they have had an email from MINI saying that Cooper S production has basically been halted for the time being so that they can essure the highest build and safety qualities.

As for my LB Cooper S - it has now changed to mode '500' which basically means no build date, it was meant to be built this Monday gone..
