17" - standard suspension?

My first day here. You guys are great - and the forum an unrivalled source of mini info.

I placed my DS MCS order early december for february delivery. I did my spec before discovering Mini2.com - but am pretty pleased with most my choices.

Only real headache was whether to go for the 17" Crown Spoke Alloys - which along with Sports suspension and Xenon were the only missing items from the Chilli Pack (my spec besides this include Leather Carbon black, Factory Nav, Panoramic Roof, PDC, Armrest, Dark headliner, Brused alloy - besides I have noticed that the Belgian S has a number of items as standard, which are UK options, e.g. DSC, heated screen, alarm, interior lights, white indicators, but also, depressingly an "output reduction" of 11 hp.......fiscal reasons)

I originally opted for the 16" with standard suspension as roads in Brussels are /(&/&% crap.

Today and a week before deadline, I added the rest of the Chilli pack (i.e. Xenon and 17" Crown Spoke) but asked the dealer to keep the standard suspension. The obvious reason was geeting the two extras for a mere 520 €.

Was that a good choice? Does anyone in here have experience with this combo - i.e 17" with standard suspension?

Thanks

I have now done about 1100 miles in my R56 MCS with 17" wheels and standard suspension and am very happy. I would not want the ride any firmer. I think it is already firmer than my Boxster S

Welcome to the gang MoMiniDK!

I'm not expert on R56 suspension yet (I'm about to order a DS Cooper S myself, so get some pics taken when you get yours!) but have read in a couple of UK car mags that non-sport suspension could be the best option. Apparently it gives the best ride/handling balance. The sports suspension is supposed to be very firm (and as mentioned earlier - doesn't lower the ride height).

I've driven a Cooper on 17's with sports suspension & 16's without. I definitely preferred the latter but am not sure whether it was the tyre size or the suspension which made the difference.

Mods - Cooper S pedals, Cheqered interior mirror, chrome side repeaters

Guys, thanks. I appreciated the first-hand from Martin as it assured me a bit that the ride is still comfortable. After a bit of studying, it seems that 17" with standard suspension or 16" with sport suspension seems too strike a good balance for most people (see e.g. the review on HonestJohn). From those 2 configuration options, I think the first looks slightly better - and I'll stick with my choice)

(Martin, I had a first generation Boxter S and thought that was more than firm enough.)
