As there are dozens of you waiting to collect your new car on the 1st of March. I thought it worth posting the following advice.

Firstly, the 1st of March is the worst time to pick up a car simply because the dealer will be very busy and despite their best efforts will not be able to give you the attention that they deserve. But then there is nothing quite like the pleasure of picking up a new car on the first day of registration. However, twice before I have had new vehicles delivered to my house the day before but strictly by transporter and it must stay on your drive.

In your excitement to get going do take your time and give the car a close examination, if possible outside. Make sure that the car is exactly as ordered and the manuals and documents are all correct.

Most important of all, do not pay the balance until you have completed your checks. The dealer will try to get you to pay as soon as you arrive, but don't. If you do find a problem it is so much easier to reject the car before payment. The onus is on them to make it right and they will do if they are missing the balance of payment.

If you discover a fault once the car has been driven take it straight back and leave it there with the keys and documents. Depending on the fault you may have to give the dealer the opportunity to fix it. If major do not be fobbed, it is not of merchantable quality.

Very good advice, I usually give it a week after the New reg date to pick up a new car.
As you rightly say, if you go on 1st March / Sept then they just want you out of the door asap.
