Offline | Sorry if you have misinterpreted my comment about "a push-chair on wheels" as a reference to the Mini....it was not meant that way. I was using it as reference to some earlier remarks about the 'R' not being comfortable, and having a cheap plastic interior. I intend to get an 'S' as stated in earlier threads, therefore I would not have that intention if I regarded it as a push-chair. |

Offline | It's funny how threads can be interpreted in different ways I've always liked Hondas, well especially their engines I'm still unsure about the new Civic, the dash I feel is very jumbled an I'm not keen with the triangular theme with the door handles, tail pipes etc and like Paul mentioned, unlike the MINI it will date very quickly, but I still think MINI have lots to learn from the Japanese in terms of build integrity, I'm not saying the quality of a MINI is poorer but it's build I feel is inferior to many Japanese makes who seem super efficient in this department. The replacement model is starting to be just like the old model, interior rattles, arch trim coming adrift, noisy gearboxes etc, ironic when it's supposed to be all new. Why can't MINI build a car that doesn't suffer these traits, it's almost as if it's DNA has been inherited from the old model If my little Suzuki Swift can have minimum panel gaps, rattle free interior and a silent gearbox at £8995, why can't a MINI? |

Offline | One thing I wonder about with Civics is the appeal to "the middle ground". Around our way the ones I notice always seem to be driven by old people or "boy racer" types. Maybe that's only because I notice them due to the driving style of pensioners and young hooligans though! |

Offline | My Mum is getting a Honda Civic 5 Door EX with Glass roof, leather seats and 18 inch alloy wheels. I like the new design of the Civer, not sure about the Type R as I haven't seen it. But the reason my Mum wouldn't go for a Mini is cos she thinks its a modern car, that wouldn't suit an older woman. She feels it looks strange when older women get out of a Mini. She loves the Mini - but has gone for the Civic because its closer to the estate cars she'd had in the past. Went to see it yesterday and it is nice, and the 3 door Type S would probably be my 2nd choice of car - but I couldn't give up the Mini (hence having a Cooper on order..) ![]() |

Offline | At the end of the day its a personal decision and its pointless coming onto a Mini forum asking "Mini or Honda?" because it's obvious what everyone on here will say! Go with your heart, test drive them both and decide which one got you most excited. |

| This space aint long enou | Perhaps a demolition derby is the only way to resolve this debate??????? This could be an excessive intake of alcohol on a Sunday Night talking but, if you want a friggin Civic, just buy a friggin Civic. Don't confuse me, with someone who gives a damn!!!!!! We need people to buy cars other than MINI's so we can fully appreciate our cars. Ahhh, that feels better. ![]() |

| Damned | Obviously I havnt seen the Brushed Alloy in real LIfe Looking it up, I see its a £90 option but I guess it must be a veneer of alloy stuck onto the dash moulding in the same way as I guess the wood is. I cant see them producing several solid alloy castings with that kind of finish for that price. Anyway, thanks for the replies & I`ll let you get back on with the Argument {I think a good way to resolve it may be to build Lego models of both & drop them from the top of the stairs} ![]() In da Wud |

Offline | I think these "shall I buy a Mini or a .........." threads are a bit pointless really, even if the other is a fine car, Mini2 is a Mini site so we will recommend the Mini. The question would be better asked on a non specific car site. Just my two -peneth worth. |

Offline | Can someone please explain the meaning of "chav.? As an American it's a word i've not encountered. I have had several Hondas and have much respect and fondness for them. Mine have been very reliable and were solid, good handling cars. However, my heart went out to the Mini as soon as I saw it. It is certainly more distinctive, and I think, more fun. I would say that for track days, where you can keep the Honda in the VTec range, it might be the best choice. But for street or autocross, the Mini would be a better option. A broad, flat torque curve is the driver's friend, particularly in situations were there are lots of speed changes at short intervals. I recall one review (R&T I think) where the Honda was marked down as an autocross for always seeming to be in the wrong gear. Not good. I look forward to autocrossing my Mini S. It should be the perfect car to leave in one gear and left-foot brake. Changing gears is upsetting to the car no matter how well done, and it takes a good bit of driver attention. In sum, I think both are good cars, but with very different personalities. happy trails, Joe Stephenson |

| Giggity-goo! | Wikipedia defines a chav thus: Chav is a derogatory slang term in popular usage throughout the UK. It refers to a subculture stereotype of a person who is uneducated, uncultured and prone to antisocial or immoral behaviour. The label is typically, though not exclusively, applied to teenagers and young adults of white working-class or lower-middle class origin. Chav is used for both sexes, where a male chav is sometimes referred to as a chavster and a female as a chavette. Thats a fairly good summation I think. ![]() |
