Offline | Yeh I had the old shape civic type R on order and cancelled it for a Mini Cooper S (R53). Mainly because the old shape Civic (EP3) was so basic and a boring looking. I wanted to upgrade the Mini and was going to change it for the new shape but I really dont like the new R56 so went for the new shape Type R(FN2). |

Offline | At the end of the day its horses for courses. Test drive the car and see if you like it, thinking about whether you can live with it everyday. I got lots of interest from girls when I had my mini which is def a positive all i seem to get with my Honda is male attention. |

Offline | I've currently got a 55 plate Type R (premier) and about to change for a new MCS. I had a 04 plate MCS a few years back and have missed it ever since. The EP3 CTR is a great drivers car in terms of outright performance, but for me it hasn't got the overall X-factor of the Mini. Don't believe all you hear about Honda's being perfect, materials and build quality is way off what it once was. The new FN2 CTR doesn't interest me at all. |

Offline | As per my earlier posts, I noticed a worrying thing regarding my friends Type R...the air vent indicators (ie closed or open) were actually just stickers??? Stuck on pictures ![]() Thats a quality build! |

Offline | Yeh thats the reason I cancelled the my Honda order 3 years ago in favour of the Mini. Then Honda then was well engineered under the bonnet, but very poor interior (typical of Japanese cars). But I was much impressed with the new Type-R they have much improved the interior. Wheras I feel that Mini have have reduced their quality, dont get me wrong im not saying the new Mini is poor just not enough improvment for me to stay with the brand. Like I say i was impressed with my R53 ok it had faults in the 3 years I owned it but BMW were 2nd to non in putting them right. There are plenty of other manufacturers that would be more dissapointing than Honda or BMW. |

| MINI2 Senior | Test drove a new Type R yesterday, very, very nice car. Actually really like the interior, doesn't look quite as random i the flesh, loved the gearbox, tight and positive. Seats good too very comfy My only gripe with it was that it didn't actually feel that quick, i know its much quicker than an MCS on paper, but as the power is over 5,500 revs you don't really get that kick in the back. Ill wait for the works to come out tho before deciding my next car. If its too expensive, like the R56 MCS then I probs end up getting one of these ![]() "....you'd be getting a child from Albania.......you mean all white with pink eyes???....." |

Offline | Everyday driving the MCS will be faster always. Type-R's are only faster on paper and in a 1/4mile race. Overtaking and general driving around town they arent unless you change down 3 gears and boot it. Or just drive at high revs but then the fuel just vanishes..... |

Offline | I currently own an Integra Type-S, which performs very similarly to a Civic Type R. It is a great car, but, and it's a big but, it's an extremely engaging car. This has its pro's and con's; it provides great feedback, but it can also be very tiring if you are not in the mood. I test drove the Mini Cooper S and am in a qualified position to make a valid comparison. The mini Cooper S is FAR easier to live with. You can potter around town, or, you give it some stick. The trap with the Civic Type R is that it's performance is initially very appealing, but over time it gets a bit too much. But by then its too late, you've already bought one. Stick with the Mini Cooper S all the way, it's quicker, its more fuel efficient, its arguably more stylish and handles better in all conditions but particularly in the wet.. |
