My new MINI has docked here in Melbourne...only a week or so away, by time it clears customs and pre-delivery detailing.

It's about time I joined the throng... and put this thread back at the top.

I already have a LB MCS, but alas, its getting a little too old for me now. So, in about 10 minutes I am going to go to the mini shop and write cheque for the new one.

It's arrived three weeks early so I am stoked.

A quick spec is along the lines of.

• Blue with lots of white, and some shiney bits,
• Little add-ons that mean I don't have to move my fingers 2" to turn the lights/wipers on,
• Things that allow me to turn corners a little quicker (my favourite),
• A box thing that tells me which corner to turn (a little quicker),
• and lots of standard chilli bits.

Roll on next weekend.........

I have just been browsing and came across this thread so I thought I would add a few words about lightning blue.....I bought a lightning blue cabrio in June but had to reject it due to paint work issues. The rejection was accepted and along came MINI number 2, also in lightning blue. Guess what? Same problem and rejection accepted by MINI. Third one arriving next week in red!!

I have also seen 57 plate R56s around with exactly the same problem but obviously unnoticed by their owners.

The problem manifests itself in bright sunlight. If you look at the car from an angel with sun above or behind you the paintwork takes on a two tone blue effect as if the sun is shining through the foliage of a tree behind you. Friends of mine described it as like zebra or tiger stripes.

It would seem to be a problem with the primer/undercoat according to MINI UK and I was assured when I ordered the second car that it had been rectified.

It obviously has not!! Have a good look at your car as it could cause you problems perhaps on resale if the problem is known to exist by MINI and dealerships....

I know for a fact that my cars haven't been the only rejections in the country as a result of defective paintwork

I'm also getting the JCW R109 Composite Wheels shortly after delivery - buying them from my dealerships JCW demonstrator, JCW Carbon Fibre Bonnet scoop as soon as I find a good price, and JCW Aero Kit Grille Surround - Painted Black. -This will help shrug the cutesy look and take on a more stern/stealth presence without going billboard Aero Kit - which does look awesome anyway.

Got a good deal - with Free TLC. Pick up should be around about 4 weeks from now. - So excited - I've loved my R53 - has been a total blast - The Cooper S is the perfect car for me at the moment - Properly quick without being a fortune to run. Premium Brand - just awesome and imo the R56 is just evolution.
