Hi, new member here, just in the process of speccing an R56, and need your help!!

I last had a MINI two years ago, a beautiful DS/B MCS, and am finally able to get another one

The problem is the colour - I was nearly ready to go lightning blue until I went to the dealers yesterday and saw a laser blue with white roof and stripes on the forecourt. It looked stunning, and now I'm really unsure what to do.

I've only seen pics of the lightning blue on here, I haven't seen one in the flesh (there are none at the dealers), but if it looks half as good as the laser blue then I'm gonna have a real dilemma

Have you folks got any advice??

Well there is lots of Laser Blues about. I like the Colour but most R56 S are that colour.

My Dealer has a Lighting Blue and I must say it is stunning.

It all depends on what do you want. A Light Blue or A Dark Blue

Thanks for the quick reply

I was pretty sure I wanted the darker colour till I saw the Laser Blue in the flesh, now I'm not so sure.

Is the lightning blue similar to the colour of the blue MINI in the Italian Job remake (basically the darker blue from around 2003, sorry I can't remember the name of it now)

It is a bit like hyper blue. What is one of the colours that was on convertable and other cars befor the R56s came out .I think Lighting Blue is slightly darker. Not 100% shore becouse of the lighting the car was in. Some people say it looks more like indi blue what was the colour in the IJ i think .

I think there both great shades of blue.

I think laser blue jumps out at you at says "look at me", Lightning is a bit more subtle about things it knows it looks good without saying a word, like Angelina Jolie with a soar throat.

Laser Blue exclusive to MCS and a brand new colour. Lightning blue doesn't know if its Hyper or Indigo either way available across the entire range and more a new name than shade ;-)

Well Laser blue is a bit like Electric Blue. But as i said in my first post.

It depends if you want a Light or a Dark Blue. Next time your in your dealers have a look on the colour chart. It should give u a brief idea.

When i first saw the colours in the brochure I had wanted the lightning blue thinkin it was like the indi blue which was a lovely colour. However after seeing it in person the lightning blue is basically indi blue but darker. sadly i think it is too dark and looks a little dull imho. for me laser blue everytime

Laser Blue for me. Looks great in bright light. Not so good in dull light though. Lightning Blue just looks dull in all light.

here's another one from Switzerland. I chose lightning with white top and bonnet stripes and it looks stunning. I guess one could use the word conservative !!! regarding the colour.

Lightning Blue is a new colour as well. It was introduced with the new model.

As popey said Lightning Blue is more of a subtle colour than Laser Blue, I've always like understated colours myself hence why I have it

Must admit, I wouldnt know which one to choose. Love both of them, but if push came to shove, Id probably go... Pepper White

Only joking, probably go for lightning blue, only because as Olly said, I like understated colours.

Laser Blue will be too common!!! I can see it now, go on a MINI breakfast run and one too many laser blues.
Lightning blue should be a bit rare.

Both colours are good. I have opted for lightning because i have an electric blue mini currently which looks a lot like laser.

After picking up my brand new MCS lightning blue with white roof, mirrors, bonnet stripes and spokes, I must say i looks the part. I think this is the first car delivered in Norway with this colour. Having only seen the colour in pictures I was in doubt when ordering it. Now I'm glad i did! None of the pictures I've seen of lightning blue does it any favours. It really is much fresher live.

Having inspected my car on the day of my delivery, the Norwegian BMW/Mini importer will now order several Minis in lightning blue as demo cars. I think they were impressed with the colour :-) And so will you.

Having said that I borrowed a laser blue MCS one weekend before ordering my car and I think this colour also looks nice on the Mini.

Thanks again for all the replies guys, its really useful to get everyone else's thoughts. I think the only way to solve this is to try and find a Lightning Blue in the flesh so I can compare it.

The Laser Blue didn't impress me too much in photos, but when I saw it at the dealers I loved it. On the other hand the Lightning Blue looks great in photos, but I don't know if it'd be any good in real life.

Unfortunately my dealer doesn't have any lightning blues at the mo, so I'll have to go hunting
