Offline | R56 Tyres - Decision From what I've read, the R56 tyres include the Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMT for the 17" wheels and the Dunlop SP Sport 5000A DSST for the 16" wheels. At my dealership though, there are cars with Continental ContiSportContact 2 SSRs. Has anyone here discovered that your car came with the Contis? If so, any comments? I'll have the option of choosing the wheels and tyres for my new MCS that is due in next week. I'd appreciate some help with that decision if anyone's up to it. |

Online | in the uk, 17 inch rims come with dunlop sp sport 01 - i believe there is not set prescription and it depends on stock at the plant great you can choose. so far, IMO, these tyres on my car give a good ride, with excellent grip and relatively low levels of road noise which i like for refinement. |

Offline | Thank you for your feedback. It made my decision easy (not looking for summer tires). after researching on Tirerack I've decided to go with 17" Crownspoke wheels/Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMTs. Of my viable options, these have been graded somewhat higher than most. Also, important to me, they exhibit decent handling in light snow and their treadwear is pretty good. Thanks again. |

| Deals Gap Junkie | Ken; the RS-A's are "decent" in that they do nothing great and everything well. I've had them on two cars in the past and the only positive I can say of them is they stop well in the wet. FWIW, many police patrol cars use them because they're a decent "performance" all-season, but in then end, they can't hang with a snow tire in the winter, and a summer tire in the summer. ![]() |

| Deals Gap Junkie | No they're not really soft compound, that would be an "R-compound". Summer tires will have a softer compound than an all-season, and will be stickier on clean pavement [both dry and wet] than an all-season tire. All-season's will usually last longer in terms of mileage, however that is a reasonable trade-off for greatly improved 3 season traction. ![]() |

Offline | First let me mention .. KenL recommended the Goodyear Excellence Runonflats. On research all I've found are good things said about these tires but unfortunately there's very little information I can find here, probably because they're not available in the U.S. Are they All Season Run Flats? Ryephile, You're right of course. But changing out wheels/tires twice a year in an area of moderate climate isn't very practical. On researching all the runflat tires that are available here and listed as acceptable for the Mini Cooper, the Goodyear RS_As seem to come out on top. Here are Tirerack comparisons for the recommended 17" and 16" All season runflats. First the Goodyear then the Dunlop: Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMT at The Tire Rack. Dunlop SP Sport 5000A DSST at The Tire Rack. Last edited by Ken Cooper : Mar 4th, 2007 at 03:20 PM. Reason: Was too verbose |

Offline | See my post over at NAM regarding the Goodyear Excellence RunOnFlat that I just fitted to my '05 R53 MCS. These tires are fantastic and much better suited than the old EMT technology Eagle's. RunOnFlat is the second generation runflat technologu from both Goodyear and Dunlop (Goodyear owns Dunlop Tire). Offline | Hi Guys, How do these 2nd generation run flats compare to the older ones? We're looking to move to a new MCS (currently have a 2003 MCS), but the Pirelli run flats our 03 came with were brutal. We moved to Yokohamas and now Falkens and both significantly improved handling and comfort. Living in the snow belt of the Ottawa Valley, all seasons are not a viable option. As the Pirellis are the only run flats I've ever used, I don't have anything to compare them to. So should I try again? |
