Offline | Automatic Cooper S vs Manual Cooper S = Auto FASTER Hi All, Just watched the roadfly review YouTube - Roadfly.com - 2007 MINI Cooper-S Car Review They state that the Automatic is faster than manual posting 14.77 and 14.90 respectively for the quarter mile. Is this true???? MINI, it is a way of life. |

Offline | If the person is not good in manual tranny, I believe that the automatic would beat the manual. But if the driver is an experienced manual tranny user, I'm sure it would beat the automatic |

Offline | Flyinace, there were professional drivers and journalist driving on the day. The best time posted for the day was 14.77 for an automatic and 14.90 for the manual. I prefer manual but it would be nice to have an auto for traffic. MINI, it is a way of life. |

Offline | I can't sleep now knowing that my new MCS could be 0.13s slower to 100mph than an Auto MCS. It upsets me even more thinking that the Auto might be 0.08s faster to 60mph. Get a grip guys, this difference is two tenths of bugger all, one driver could be a couple of ounces heavier than the other to make that difference! ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | yeah but to get the time in the auto all that had to be done was peddle down, its gonna get around that time almost every time dependent on conditions. with the manual, they would have had to get the perfect change, at the perfect rev, something that a normal driver wont be able to do, so I'd say unless your a very good driver you probably looking at about 2 second difference to 100 between the 2. |

Offline | It maybe quicker, it may not be any quicker, but it sure as hell won't be half as much fun as shifting gears manually ... No matter how good or clever these auto boxes get they just don't satisfy like a manual gearbox can IMO ![]() Too many freaks not enough circuses Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint and he has to touch it. |

| MINI2 Regular | was just saying in theory. I've never even driven an auto car before so don't know what they are like to drive, I'd like to have a play with the flappy paddles in a MCS to compare though. I would also prefer the manual myself, more satisfying if you get a good gear change in a race! |

| 5 days!! | Auto-boxes do suit some cars to the ground (such as the old Kia Sorento, which its Auto box was awesome, and things like Landys etc), but I think IMO (give me as much stick as you want if you wish), that the Mini is a drivers car, and that an Auto box, although being very good from what Ive read, will never be as driver orientated and as suited to the Mini as it is in motors such as large 4x4s, exec cars etc. Just my opinion though... If you have to have an Auto box for whatever reason, I can respect your reason 100%, but from these figures, I couldnt understand anyone paying and extra lump sum on top of the car just to gain an extra few tenths, in which in real world driving in reality would make no difference, apart from fuel economy, which would go down. |
