ordering mini acessories, aero kit etc

hey i was wondering when you guys buy acessories, how does it come? do you just get the parts and install it yourself or pay the dealership to do it? cuz i was thinking of ordering the aero kit and it says installaion not included but the guy at MINI said that they usually do that at the factory. i asked him about the checked top decal and they said it would cost about $500US to install, thats insane. so if they have to paint and install the aero kid, it will cost a zillion bucks. same with the invisbleshield for the front end. has anyone tried the invisible shield yet, thanks for the info

hey guppy,

i was speaking to someone from another mini site who fits the aero kits on a regular basis. it's not his full time job, just does it as a favour or for a couple of quid at a time. he said he's not technically gifted when it comes to modding cars but fitting the aero is quite simple. clip it in here, clip it in there and away you go. i'm sure there's a bit more to it but that's the basics. i'd rather try and save the money to get the dealers to fit it. i'm a bit cack handed with this kinda stuff. i know this probably doesnt help much but its start :O)

what we achieve in life echoes in eternity

To determine whether installation costs quoted by dealers are reasonable you need to know how much they charge an hour for labor and what the book rate is on installing the accessory.

The MotoringFile has a great number of the Official Installation Instuctions online. Installation time for a Checkered Roof decal on a 1st Gen MINI is about 1 hour. Installation time for an Aero Kit on a 1st Gen MINI is about 2 hours.

Most dealers outsource the InvisiShield installation. Don't pay them for being the "middle man"
