I test my mini cooper s r56 against a golf v gti 200hp and i was surprised.
I start whith 2nd gear at 3000rpms and when i reach the finals rpms of 3rd gear, i was up to 4 maybe 5 car in front of the "scary golf gti".

Was the Golf in 2nd gear when you were? Was it really racing you?

I know the S is fast but I doubt it would be much if any quicker than the Golf GTI.

I test drove the current golf GTI before i bought my current MCS and i have to say the golf prob does have a higer top speed but its a bit slower getting there

but the mini is more fun and its not all about top speed mini's has style golf's dont

Don't forget the Golf probably weighs over 200kg more so power to weight ratio would be in the Mini's favour. 4-5 car lenghts seems a bit much but I would think the Mini would be quicker to 80-90mph and then the Golf would maybe be quicker.

the golf gti was really racing-
the cars are both stock engine and stuff
i my opinion the golf is slow in low gears, but good at top speed.(270km/h in highway fall)
the owner of the golf gti is my friend and he is selling the car to buy a Mini (old model but new plate). "dont know why??"

WoW sounds like the R56 S could be more potent than i thought. Next time get it on tape mate.

Just seems weird to me there is such a difference. Nobody has tested the S that show it being quicker than a GTI.

Exactly, virtually nothing in it.

The GTI is a great car. Does everything really well.
