23rd Hour Delay

Argh

R56 MCS due for collection tomorrow. Got a call this afternoon - they have the wrong car. The one they have is an earlier variation of the one I wanted, not my final choice.

have to wait 3 - 4 weeks for new one to come through

Very sorry to hear that Stuvoi.

Perhaps you can get something out of the dealer/MINI for this?

I'd tend to give them a bit of a break; they've already got to put an unwanted car into stock and most dealers are good enough to let us mess them around with regular changes to our orders and, as a direct result, mistakes are bound to happen sooner or later.

Still frustrating though...

Tigger.

"Good enough to let us mess them around with changes to our orders"; We are entitled to change are minds as customers this is of no cost to the dealer. The unwanted car is not down to you, I don't think you should rant and rave but a little something to take the edge off the disappointment would be welcome.

AND whats an "earlier variation"

Sounds like what he originally ordered and then he probably changed spec before the cut-off point and they've still built the original car.

So sorry you have to wait another 4 weeks for the car of your choice - I feel your pain.

I doubt the dealer will be able to compensate you in any way, but there's no harm in trying your luck.

At Woodmans you now have to go in and sign for any changes you make, not sure if this is the case at all dealers. This was only introduced just before I spec'd my new car.

However if they know its an "early variation" they must know they have made a mistake or at least a mistake has been made at some point.

Which is why I added MINI as an option here. It isn't the dealer's fault, but as the customer-facing part of MINI perhaps they could come up with something.

It's unlikely to result in any form of compensation, but there's no harm in trying is there?

My dealer just sent me a brand new contract everytime I made a spec change - think I must have at least 4 of these in my drawer!

Actually, at this point we've entered into a binding contract to buy a car of a certain specification. The dealer could quite easily refuse to accept any change to the order but, to their credit, they do anyway. In some cases the specification is changes several times. In this case the dealer has come unstuck and its cost them an unwanted car in stock.

Every time they accept a change to the order it will cost the dealer in administration time and they could, quite reasonably, make a charge for this. But, again to their credit, they don't.

After they have done all this, at no cost to the customer, it seems a little unfair to want to make something out of it as well.

I could imagine that an experience like that might make them think a little harder before accepting another change from the next customer.

Tigger.

PS: I do not work for a dealer and changed the specification on our first MINI so I'm including me in this

Hiya
The change I made was to add Sat Nav, DAB Radio & Parking Distance Control.
Anyone from Mini2 who popped over to Northampton today and saw the black R56 MCS in the showroom would have seen the original specification in the flesh.

Just as an update, I am currently driving a 56 plate MCS Convertible - as the MOT on my Mini is due on Monday, as it is literally 3 years old.. - they even put a full tank of petrol in it for me..

I had lots of apologies, they have fixed Part Ex at todays rate, so should save some money due to additional payment on existing car, and have said they are going to "sort me out of something", this may be Ipod link or Spotlights, but don't know yet as was talking to MD as salesman I was dealing with is off this weekend for his birthday.

They are a good dealership, have been happy with them thus far, am disappointed, but it's not the end of the world, just hope it comes in and allows me to bed it in before the next run.

Just for completeness, new spec is shown below:

MCS
Astro Black - was originally white roof / mirrors, is now black roof / mirrors
Tuscan Beige leather
Chili Pack
Auto aircon (new)
Sat Nav (new)
Flame Alloys - in white - I know you cant have them with black roof, but they are taking them off the car that did arrive and will put them onto my new car for me
DSC
MF Steering wheel
Exterior mirror pack
Heated Washer / mirrors
Chrome line interior
Chrome line exterior
Visibility pack
Panoramic sunroof
Darkened rear glass
Auto dim interior mirror
front seat heating
Interior world tuscan beige
anthracite roof lining
interior trim piano black
PDC (new)
Rain sensors / lights on
DAB (new)
HIFI system

I was at Wollastons today
Is this your original order - absolutely stunning, the best car in the showroom. Sorry no interior pics but it was a great combination just a shame it did not have all of your bells and whistles on.

Crikey,

That is some spec you have there, must be at least 23,000 pounds worth!

Your Cooper S will be quite a looker too, metallic black with white wheels!
