If the sport suspension includes firmer sway bars and stiffer springs and/or shocks then what they are charging (at least here in the US) is very fair. But if it is only thicker sways then I can get it done much cheaper (and with thicker bars) than what MINI charges. It would be very interesting to know the exact spec differences if anyone knows them.

According to the realoem site, ( RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog )
the Cooper R56 has
a 23.5 mm front bar and 18 mm rear bar for Sport Suspension, and
a 21.5 mm front bar and 16 mm rear (same part number here as the 1st Gen SS bar)
for regular (non-Sport).

The Cooper S R56 has a
a 23.5 mm front and 18 mm rear bar for Sport suspension, and
a 22.5 mm front and 17 mm rear bar for regular (non-Sport)

They also list different strut part numbers for the regular vs. sport suspensions.

realoem doesn't list spring applications, but I'd be willing to bet they're different
for the Sport vs. the regular for the R56.
They're different for the R53 MC vs MCS vs One as per my BMW/MINI ETK cd-rom.

Thank you for the information, however, I am looking specifically for the spec differences between the claimed firmer shocks and springs rather than the spec differences between the anti-roll bars.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you all know that 1mm on the outer diameter does alot for stiffness of the suspension.

twist = (2 x torque x length)/(p x diam4 x material modulus)

if we assume the same material is the same, we can basically say that the torsional rigidity is a function of the diameter to the 4th power..

So on the sports suspension on a MCS;
22.5^4 / 23.5^4mm = 84% stiffer.
and for the rear
17^4/18^4 = 79% stiffer.

Which i am sure they put alot of engineering into knowing that this is the correct amount of sway bar for the car. From my experience As a person who used to SOLO2 (autocross) short wheel base civics i think that 19mm is the most you should go anyway on that wheel base.

Anyway when i order my MCS at the end of the year i will get the sport package and put Koni Yellows on it.

Actually,

23.5^4 / 22.t^4 = 1.19 or 19% stiffer

18^4 / 17^4 = 1.26 or 26% stiffer

Regarding data on shock performance, I have seen a bunch of shock dyno curves
on vwvortex.com (mostly about aftermarket shocks, but some stock curves),
but never on a MINI site.

Spring rate data on MINI stock and aftermarket springs is also quite sparse.
